Alfred Hindorf

Leopold Alfred Hindorf (born May 12, 1824 in Layden near Mitau , † September 10, 1892 in Charlottenburg ) was a Prussian major general and painter.

Life

His parents were the preacher in Farnstädt Karl Hindorf († 1869) and his wife Karoline, née Bach.

Military career

After attending secondary school in Halle (Saale) , Hindorf joined the 3rd Pioneer Department of the Prussian Army on November 9, 1841 as a one-year volunteer . He graduated from October 1842 to July 1845 for further training at the United Artillery and Engineering School . In the meantime he was transferred to the 2nd Pioneer Department and aggregated as Second Lieutenant of the 1st Engineer Inspection . After completing his training, he was aggregated to the 2nd Engineer Inspection and transferred to the 6th Pioneer Department, and at the end of 1848 he was assigned. Subsequently, on May 15, 1848, he was commanded as the leader of a pontoon detachment to Breslau and on October 1, 1848, he was appointed adjutant of the 6th pioneer division. On October 1, 1850, he came to the fortification service in Neisse . He was promoted to 2nd Adjutant of the 1st Engineer Inspectorate on February 6, 1851 and promoted to Premier Lieutenant on December 2, 1852 . From the end of March 1854 to the beginning of October 1855, Hindorf provided fortification services in Königsberg and then in Danzig . He was promoted to captain at the end of May 1856 , was transferred to the 3rd engineer inspection on December 9, 1859, and on December 11, 1859 he was assigned to the fortification service in Mainz .

On July 21, 1861, Hindorf became chief of the 2nd company in the Westphalian Pioneer Battalion No. 7 in Deutz and on August 11, 1863, after releasing his command as company commander, he took over the construction business at Hohenzollern Castle . On January 30, 1864, he became chief of the 4th Company in the Pomeranian Pioneer Battalion No. 2 in Stettin. This was followed at the beginning of October 1864 as chief of the 1st company in the Guard Pioneer Battalion . At the same time, from November 1, 1864, Hindorf was also a member of the examination committee for captains and prime lieutenants of the engineering corps. On April 3, 1866, he came to Glatz as garrison construction director of the I. Army Corps and also acted as a deputy engineer officer .

In the run-up to the German War , he was transferred to the 2nd engineer inspection on May 8, 1866 and joined the staff of VI. Army Corps commands. In this position Hindorf took part in the battle of Königgrätz , rose to major and received the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class with swords. After the war, on October 10, 1866, he became an engineer officer from Stralsund . On July 26, 1870, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on August 3, 1871, he was awarded the Order of the Crown, 3rd Class . He received the on January 18th 1872 character as a colonel and on May 13, 1872, he was with his appointment as Chief of the 2nd Fortress inspection patent awarded to his rank with the date of 18 January 1872nd On the occasion of the festival he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III in January 1876. Excellent with swords. Hindorf was put up for disposal on February 10, 1877 with the character of major general with a pension .

He died on September 10, 1892 in Charlottenburg and was buried in the Luisen cemetery.
