Maria Alfred Nicholas Benno Markus Hubertus Graf von Brühl (* 25. April 1862 in Castle Pförten in Pförten , Kreis Sorau , Brandenburg province ; † 28. February 1922 in Weizenrodau in Swidnica , Lower Silesia ) was a German hunting painters of the Düsseldorf school . From 1916 to 1919 he was director of the Königsberg Art Academy .

Life

Von Brühl, offspring of the Brühl family , fifth son of the Prussian landlord Friedrich Stephan von Brühl and his wife Paula, née Countess von Spee (1826–1889), daughter of the Düsseldorf District Administrator Franz von Spee , studied painting in Düsseldorf . There he was a private student of the hunting painter Christian Kröner and the history painter Albert Baur the Elder. Ä. Then he switched to the animal painter Hermann Baisch in Karlsruhe . In Düsseldorf von Brühl was a member of the artists' association Malkasten and the association founded in 1898 to organize art exhibitions . Von Brühl regularly participated in exhibitions in Düsseldorf, and he also exhibited in Berlin and Munich . On September 12, 1908, he married Theresia von Lobkowitz (1876–1958) in Prague , the children Georg-Alfred (* 1910), Maria Anna (* 1912) and Ferdinand (* 1913) in Düsseldorf and their daughter Maria Paula in Wolfegg (* 1915) gave birth.

On October 1, 1916, von Brühl was appointed director of the Königsberg Art Academy after Ludwig Dettmann left . After the November Revolution of 1918 , students at the Art Academy returned from military service. Under their pressure, a general meeting of teachers and students on January 20, 1919 decided to re-establish the academy. Von Brühl then announced his resignation. After he had been on leave from May 13, 1919 to restore his health, his resignation was approved on July 1, 1920. Retired from Brühl to Silesia with his wife.
