Alfred Ritter von Hölder (born August 14, 1835 in Wimpfen am Neckar , † January 3, 1915 in Vienna ) was an Austrian commercial advisor, court and university bookseller , publisher and kuk court supplier .

biography

Alfred Hölder had been in the book trade since 1850 and from 1858 he was the first assistant to the Beck'sche university bookstore in Vienna. After the death of the owner Friedrich Beck, he took over the management of the company in 1860, and in 1862 he married Beck's daughter. In 1863 he left the publishing part to Friedrich Beck junior and was only responsible for the assortment and commission business. Shortly afterwards, he founded his own publishing house for medical, scientific, educational and legal publications. In 1874 he became a university bookseller , in 1876 court bookseller and in 1905 bookseller of the Imperial Academy of Sciences .

Holder was in 1881 ennobled (Knights of Hölder). In 1911 he handed the company over to his son, who sold the bookstore to J. Pichler in 1920 and the publishing house to the Österreichische Industrie- und Handelsbank in 1921. By merging with the publishers Friedrich Tempsky and Anton Pichler's Witwe & Sohn, the publisher Hölder-Pichler-Tempsky was created .

At the beginning of the 20th century, medicine was also increasingly treated in works. One of the first works published by Hölder was Special Pathology and Therapy by Hermann Nothnagel , bound in 24 parts in 40 volumes, which appeared in 120, mostly extensive, sections. Also to be mentioned are:
