Alfred Georg Konstantin Leopold Prosper Joseph Maria Prince of Salm-Reifferscheidt-Krautheim and Dyck (born June 23, 1863 in Neucilli ; † July 6, 1924 in Morken-Harff ) was a registrar and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

His parents were Leopold Karl Alois Longin Maria zu Salm-Reifferscheidt-Dyck (* March 14, 1833 - May 16, 1893), Prince and Count of Salm-Reifferscheid-Krautheim and Dyck and his first wife Anna von Thurn and Valsássina-Como -Vercelli Frein zum Kreuz (born September 19, 1837, † September 12, 1864). After the early death of his first wife, the father married Countess Christine von Spiegel zum Desenberg-Hanxleden (* May 18, 1846, † February 6, 1935)

Alfred zu Salm-Reifferscheidt-Krautheim and Dyck attended the college in Kalksburg near Vienna , studied law, including two semesters at the Kaiser Wilhelms University of Strasbourg , and passed the state examinations in law at the University of Graz . In 1893, after the death of his father, he took over the majorate and family estates on the Rhine and in Baden. He was a member of the district council and district committee in the Grevenbroich district , vice-president of the German Association of the Holy Land and hereditary member of the Prussian mansion .

He was also characterized major (January 27, 1912) à la suite of the army, awarded the Order of the Red Eagle 1st Class , the Order of the Crown 1st Class , the 1st Class of the Baden Zähringer Order of Lions , Knight of the sovereign Order of Malta , the Commander of the Bavarian House Order of St. George and the Grand Cross of the Order of the Holy Sepulcher .

From 1912 to 1918 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Aachen 4 ( Düren , Jülich ) and the German Center Party . Between 1907 and 1912 he was a member of the Rhineland Provincial Parliament .

Marriage and offspring

On April 28, 1898 he married Marie-Dorothea Countess von Bellegarde in Vienna (born June 27, 1873 in Groß Herlitz , † February 1, 1945 in Überlingen on Lake Constance ). The marriage had five children:

  • Franz Josef (1899–1958), 6th Prince and Former Count of Salm-Reifferscheidt-Krautheim and Dyck,
  • Maria Rudolfine Anna Wilhelmine Eusebia Josepha (1900–1915),
  • Christianne (1901–1984),
  • Alfred Georg Rudolf Joseph Maria (1903–1920) and
  • Paula Wilhelmine Raphaele Maria Josepha (1906–1968).

Accidental death

On July 6, 1924, the prince drove to Harff Castle by car, accompanied by chauffeur Malinsky, housekeeper Magit von der Betten and his daughters Christianne and Paula. At the Morken level crossing, the car was hit by a director's train and swept away to the station in Harf. The prince and his chauffeur were dead on the spot, Magit von der Betten died two days later in Düren hospital, Christianne was seriously injured.

The prince and Magit from the ceiling were buried in the family crypt in the Nikolauskloster , Jüchen.
