Aljona Vasilyevna Starodubzewa

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aljona Wassiljewna Starodubzewa ( Russian Алёна Васильевна Стародубцева ; born March 14, 1985 ) is a Russian wrestler . In 2009 she became vice European champion in the weight class up to 72 kg body weight.

Career

Aljona Starodubzewa began wrestling as a teenager in 1996. She starts for the Viktor Krasnoyarsk sports club . So far she has been trained mainly by Alexei Petrovich and Viktor Raikow. With a height of 1.73 meters, she competes in the weight class up to 72 kg body weight, i.e. in the heaviest weight class in women's wrestling. She is a physical education teacher.

She was multiple Russian junior champion and began her international career in 2001 with a 2nd place at the European Junior Championships (Cadets) in Izmir . In 2002 she came in 3rd place at the European Junior Championships (Cadets) in Albena / Bulgaria . In 2004 she became Junior European Champion in Sofia ahead of Darja Ibragimowa from Ukraine and Marina Gastl from Austria . In her last junior year in 2005, she won two more medals at the international championships. At the Junior World Championships in Vilnius she came second behind the American Ali Sue Bernard and at the Junior European Championships this year in Wrocław she was third behind Marina Gastl and Kristin Büttner from Germany .

Aljona Starodubzewa needed some time to establish herself among the women. So far she has not managed to become No. 1 in her weight class in Russia . In Jelena Perepelkina , Jekaterina Bukina and since 2011 also in Natalja Vorobjewa she has opponents there who she can hardly defeat. At the Russian championships from 2007 to 2011 she always took medal places, but could never become champion. In 2012 she won no more medals at this championship. She will therefore hardly have a chance to qualify for the Olympic Games in London .

In 2008 Aljona Starodubzewa was used by the Russian Wrestling Federation at the World Championships in Tokyo . She won there over Laure Ali Annabel from Cameroon and Jaresmit Weffer from Venezuela and lost to Stanka Slatewa from Bulgaria and in the battle for a bronze medal against Ohenewa Akuffo from Canada and finished this championship in 5th place.

After winning the tournament at the renowned "Ivan Yarigin" memorial in Krasnoyarsk in January 2009 and shouldering multiple world champion Stanka Slatewa in the final battle , she was also used at the European Championships this year in Vilnius . She won there over Marina Gastl, Darja Iwanowa, Azerbaijan and Swetlana Sajenko from Ukraine. In the final battle, she lost to Stanka Slatewa on points and was thus vice European champion.

After that, she was no longer used at international championships.
