Aloyzas Kveinys (born July 9, 1962 in Mažeikiai ; † July 26, 2018 ) was a Lithuanian chess player and international grandmaster as well as national coach.

Life

After graduating from the 22nd secondary school in Vilnius , Kveinys completed a diploma course at the Institute for Physical Culture in Moscow from 1980 . From 2009 he lived in Iran . There he worked as the coach of the Iranian national women's chess team and gave lectures on chess in various cities.

Kveinys was married and had three children.

successes

Kveinys won the Lithuanian Individual Championship in 2008 and was one of nine chess grandmasters in Lithuania.

He played for his country in eight chess Olympiads between 1992, the year in which he received the grandmaster title, and in 2008 , scoring 51.5 points from 97 games (29 wins, 23 losses, 45 draws). At the 2010 Chess Olympiad , he coached the Iranian women's national team.

Kveinys took part in five European team championships between 1992 and 2015 (he was also nominated for the Lithuanian team in 2013, but was not used).

In 2004 he won the Bad Wörishofen Chess Festival in front of Wladimir Burmakin . In the German Federal Chess League he played from 1999 to 2002 and in the 2007/08 season for the Godesberger SK ; Most recently he was active in Germany in the 2017/18 season for SV Lingen in the Oberliga Nord.

Kveinys also played in the Norwegian Eliteserien (for the Moss Schakklub , with which he was champion in 2009 ), in the Belgian Interclubs (in the 2003/04 season for the second team of KSK 47 Eynatten , since 2004 occasionally for Cercle des Echecs de Charleroi ), in the French team championship (for Les Tours de Haute Picardie ) and in the Polish team championship (between 1990 and 2008 for KSz Hańcza Suwałki , 2016 for Sz.SON 'Zagłębie' Dąbrowa Górnicza ).

At the European Club Cup Kveinys took nine times in part, namely eight times with Lithuanian clubs (Kaiser Vilnius, Kaunas ŠK Margiris, NSEL 30 Vilnius, Vilnius VŠŠSM) and most recently in 2017 with TSI Riga.
