The infantry regiment with the later number No. 7 was an old Prussian regiment on foot, the 1676 as a splinter group from the Guard Regiment : Built (1806 No.1). At first the garrison was in Berlin-Cölln . In the 18th century it was located in Stettin ( Pomerania ).

General story

The regiment was set up from units of the guards regiment (later No.1). In the course of the Dutch War against France, the Guard had moved into Alsace on the side of the imperial troops and left four companies behind, which were combined to form the new house regiment of the Brandenburg Electress Dorothea.

Formation history and locations

The regiment owners were: 1676 Dorothea von Brandenburg , 1688 Carl Philipp von Brandenburg-Schwedt , 1695 Christian Ludwig von Brandenburg , 1734 Friedrich Casimir von Botzheim, 1737 Carl Wilhelm von Bredow , 1741 August Wilhelm von Braunschweig-Bevern ("Alt-Bevern" ), 1781 Karl Ludwig von Winterfeld, 1784 Wilhelm Heinrich von der Goltz, 1790 Karl Eduard von Tiedemann, 1790 Karl Philipp von Owstien

Mission history

The regiment took part in the following battles: 1705 Cassano , 1706 Calcinato , 1706 Turin , 1708 Lille , 1710 Aire , 1715 Stralsund , 1741 Mollwitz , 1742 Chotusitz , 1744 Prague , 1745 Hohenfriedberg , 1756 Lobositz , 1757 Prague , 1757 Kolin , 1757 Roßbach & Leuthen (grenadiers in bat. With No. 30), 1758 Zorndorf , 1759 Kunersdorf , 1760 Torgau , 1762 Freiberg

Assessments

In the memoirs of the Silesian officer von Prittwitz, the regiment is described as a “beautiful regiment of excellent size”, “which apart from the guard was one of the most excellent in the army”. The regiment had an excellent reputation before the Seven Years' War , but was almost eliminated in the Battle of Kolin ; Loss: over 1000 men. The leftovers, insufficiently replenished with new recruits, could no longer restore the old reputation. At Zorndorf the regiment panicked. In a cabinet order in 1774, Frederick II announced: "Such behavior can neither be justified nor forgotten."

Appearance and equipment

In the middle of the 18th century, the regimental uniform consisted of a blue uniform jacket with pink lapels (skirt lap red). The camisole was beige in color. There were no bows on the chest or the Swedish cuffs. Buttons were zinc colored. The grenadiers' cap was pink and white, silver brass fittings with a pink tuft. The regimental flag was dark blue with red rays.

Whereabouts

The regiment was part of the Reserve Corps in 1806. The later New Prussian Grenadier Regiment No. 2 continued the tradition in the Reichswehr IR 5, first and second company.
