Chouardia lakusicii from the Orjen

The amethyst squill is a perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 10 to 45 centimeters. This geophyte forms onions as persistent organs. Foliage leaves are usually present from March to May, sometimes from February or September. The leaves are 15 to 40 centimeters long and 0.3 to 1.5 centimeters wide, runny, bare and have a hood tip. 15 to 70 flowers together form a dense, spherical, racemose inflorescence . The flower stalks and the inflorescence axis are blue-violet. The lower bracts are less than a millimeter long. The hermaphrodite flowers are threefold. The bracts are 4 to 5 millimeters long and 1.3 to 1.8 millimeters wide, blue-violet in color and spread out in a star shape. The anthers are black-violet.

The flowering time is usually in May, sometimes it begins in April or lasts until June.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 26.
