Amphoe Tha Chana ( Thai : อำเภอ ท่าชนะ ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the north of Surat Thani Province . The Surat Thani Province is located in the southern region of Thailand .

Neighboring Amphoe and Areas (clockwise from south): Amphoe Chaiya in Surat Thani Province and the two Amphoe Phato and Lamae in Chumphon Province . The east of the district forms the coast to the Gulf of Thailand .

history

The district is already quite old. Even before 1907 it was subordinate to Chaiya , at that time still under the name Prasong ( ประสงค์ ), and was administered by Monthon Chumphon. The administration of the district sat in what is now Ban Tha Krachai. In the course of the Thesaphiban administrative reform in 1909, most of the tambon was placed directly under the administration of Chaiya, while the remaining sub-district ( King Amphoe ) Prasong was "degraded" to tambon status. On June 29, 1919, it was completely dissolved.

As the area developed well in the following decades, the district was revived on January 1, 1948, initially as King Amphoe . The seat of the district administration was in Ban Talad Nong Wai in Tambon Tha Chana, therefore the district was also called Tha Chana. On June 5, 1956, he received full amphoe status.

etymology

The name Tha Chana means "port of victory" and comes from the time when the Uparat ("Second King") of King Phra Phutthayotfa Chulalok ( Rama I ) Chao Phraya Maha Surasinghanat in the south pushed back the Burmese invasion. When he returned victorious in 1785, he founded the temple Wat Khotharam (today's name Wat Amphawan) and erected two steles to announce his victory, one in the tambon Wang, the other in the tambon Tha Chana.

Local administration

Tha Chana (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ท่าชนะ ) is a small town ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the district. It consists of parts of the Tambon Tha Chana and Samo Thong.

There are also six "Tambon Administrative Organizations " ( องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - Tambon Administrative Organizations, TAO) for the Tambon or the parts of Tambon in the district that do not belong to any city.
