history
The small Hersfeldian "Schildschlag" (Schyldislo) was formed in the 13th century from the south-western parts of the imperial marriage of Eherinevirst donation from 1003. It has always maintained during its existence from neighboring offices, had therefore never a private bailiff or a separate court facility. From the 13th century onwards, the Lords of Buchenau had the dish from the Hersfeld abbot as a fief after they had bought it from the Hessian landgrave. From the 14th century, the ownership and fiefdom changed several times: In addition to the Buchenau , the court lords were initially the Johannesberg Propstei , a sub-monastery of the Hersfeld Abbey, to which the von Buchenau inherited half of the court, and later Landgrave Wilhelm II of Hesse. During this time, the court was administered from Buchenau in the south , from Johannesberg in Hersfeld or from Hauneck in Hesse , where the courts were located.
When the area of the Reichsabtei Hersfeld became legally binding part of the Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel in 1648 , the feudal rule and the ownership of the half court passed to the Landgraves. Between 1720 and 1722 the court became completely Hessian when the Landgrave of Hessen-Kassel bought the remaining fiefdoms of the Buchenau family, ie half of the Schildschlag court. Then the Schildschlag court was dissolved and the locations were assigned to the Hessian office of Hauneck , based in Holzheim .
During the French occupation from 1807 to 1813, the places of the former Schildschlag court belonged to the canton Petersberg in the Hersfeld district of the Werra department . After the dissolution of the Kingdom of Westphalia in 1813, what was now the Electorate of Hesse and its administrative structure were restored.
With the district division of Hesse in 1821 , the old courts and offices were dissolved and replaced by districts. Since then, the area has belonged to the Hersfeld district .
