Anaconda (Alternative title: Anaconda - It Will Take Your Breath Away ) is an American film from 1997 .

action

A National Geographic film team wants to shoot a documentary about an almost unknown Indian tribe in the Amazon jungle. During the boat trip to his presumed whereabouts, the crew gives up on Paul Sarone, who is allegedly stranded with his boat and cannot continue. Sarone has lived in the Amazon for years and lets the film crew believe that he knows the whereabouts of the Indians and can lead the crew there.

During a dive designed to release the propeller, Dr. Cale, the leader of the expedition, stabbed in the throat by a large wasp hidden in the regulator and passed out. Since this must be brought to the hospital immediately, Sarone suggests an alleged abbreviation on a branch of the Amazon. He has a mysterious river blockade blown up; The shock caused the boat's petrol barrels to roll into the river, except for one. Behind the blown palisade, the boatman is killed by a huge anaconda. Now it turns out that Sarone has guided the crew specifically to this area in order to catch an extraordinary specimen with a very high sales value. With a shot monkey he lures the anaconda to the boat, which devours another crew member. Sarone prevents the snake from being shot and takes command at gunpoint. The four still operational crew members overpower and captivate him. When the ship gets stuck and the three of the crew go into the water, Sarone kills his guard and frees herself. Again the snake attacks. Sarone stops being shot at, which again kills a team member. Who briefly came to consciousness Dr. Cale manages to get Sarone overboard with a tranquilizer.

The still healthy survivors, director Terri and cameraman Danny, go there in the hope of finding fuel supplies in a large, abandoned wooden building, but are overwhelmed by Sarone and used as bait for the anaconda. As the latter wraps around the tied couple, Sarone drops a huge net on the snake and tries to shoot a tranquilizer arrow. This fails and Sarone becomes the next victim. Terri and Danny can kill the huge animal with burning gasoline and an ax and then bump into it with Dr. Cale on the wanted Indian tribe.

Reviews

Roger Ebert described the film in the Chicago Sun-Times on April 11, 1997 as "entertainment for a large audience". He praised the direction of Luis Llosa and the portrayal of Jon Voight.

The lexicon of international films wrote: "Undemanding horror film that suffers from rudimentary figure drawing and unconvincing tricks."

The verdict of the online platform OutNow.CH is: “Anaconda is a moderately exciting ... monster flick that really offers no surprises, neither in the story nor with the actors. The shock moments rarely ignite and because of his predictable action he gives away a lot of atmosphere. "
