Andranik Hakobjan
Andranik Hakobjan ( Armenian Անդրանիկ Հակոբյան ; born October 6, 1981 in Etschmiadzin , Armavir , Armenian SSR ) is an Armenian boxer . Hakobyan won the silver medal at the 2009 World Championships and participated in the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games .
Career
Nothing is known of Andranik Hakobjan's path to the top class of Armenian amateur boxers. The 1.85 meter tall athlete starts in the middleweight division, the weight class up to 75 kg body weight. In 2005 he appeared for the first time at an international championship. This year he started at the World Championships in Mianyang / People's Republic of China and won there over Matej Matkovic, Croatia , Nikolajs Grisunins, Latvia , and Sherzod Abdurahmanow, Uzbekistan . In the quarterfinals he was defeated by Emilio Correa from Cuba by abandonment. He just missed the medal ranks and came in 5th place.
In 2006 Andranik Hakobjan took part in the European Championships in Plovdiv . He won his first fight over James Degale from England , who became Olympic champion two years later , on points (31:21) and lost in the round of 16 against Revas Karelishvili from Georgia because he was out of the fight because of an injury in the second round had to be taken.
In 2007 he took part in the World Cup in Chicago again . After a point win over Naim Terbunja from Sweden (19:17), he lost there in the round of the last "32" against Darren Sutherland from Ireland on points (20:22), which meant he was eliminated and only finished 17th.
In February 2008 Andranik Hakobjan qualified with a 3rd place at the Olympic qualification tournament in Pescara for participation in the Olympic Games in Beijing . In Beijing he won points over Ahmed Saraku from Ghana (14: 8), but had to be taken out of the fight against Elshod Rasulow from Uzbekistan in the quarterfinals due to an injury and thus came in 9th place. In 2008 he also took part in the European Championships in Liverpool . He won there over Darius Sok from Poland on points (5: 4) and lost in the quarter-finals against Eamon O'Kane from Ireland on points (4: 6), placing him in 5th place.
Andranik Hakobjan celebrated the greatest success of his career at the age of 28 in 2009. This year he won points at the World Championships in Milan over Wahid Abderredha, Iraq 813: 6), Naim Terbunja (15:11), Darren O'Neill , Ireland 87: 3), Victor Cotiujanschi , Romania (8: 1) and Alfonso Blanco , Venezuela 4: 3) and was in the final battle in which he met Abbos Atoyev from Uzbekistan. Against this he had no chance of winning and clearly lost with 0: 9 hits. As a celebrated vice world champion he returned to Armenia.
Only the result from 2010 is known of Hakobjan's start at the Armenian Championships. That year he was Armenian middleweight champion with a victory over Artur Ulichanjan. At the European Championships in the same year Hakobjan was eliminated in the quarterfinals against Nikolay Veselov, Belarus (11: 9). The following year he took part in the World Championships again and reached the quarter-finals. Habobyan defeated Victor Cotiujanschi, Moldova (17:10), Tomasz Jabłoński , Poland (18:12), and in the round of 16 Juan Antonio Mercado, Mexico (RSC 3rd), and lost in the quarter-finals to the eventual bronze medalist Bogdan Juratoni , Romania ( 21:17).
With this placement he also qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games , in which, however, he already lost the first fight against Terrell Gausha , USA (RSC 3rd).
