Andrea Kroksnes (* 1971 ) is a German - Norwegian art historian , curator and art critic . Since 2001 she has been Senior Curator at the Norwegian National Museum of Art , Architecture and Design in Oslo .

Career

After studying applied cultural studies in Lüneburg and "Art History and Criticism" at the State University of New York in Stony Brook , she did her doctorate in 2002 with Donald Kuspit and Nicholas Mirzoeff . Her dissertation Reframing the 80s: Visual Culture and the Picture Generation dealt with the importance of visual culture for the reception of contemporary art . Since autumn 2001 she has been Senior Curator at the Museet for Samtidskunst , the national museum for contemporary art in Oslo, which after the merger of the four largest museums in 2003 belongs to the Nasjonalmuseet for art, architecture & design .

Exhibitions

In addition to thematic group exhibitions, Kroksnes organized solo exhibitions by international artists such as Thomas Ruff (2002 with the Kunsthalle Baden-Baden), Paul McCarthy (2003 with the Kunstverein in Hamburg , curated by Yilmaz Dziewior ), Nick Relph / Oliver Payne (2003–2004 with the Musée d 'art modern de la Ville de Paris , co-curated with Hans-Ulrich Obrist ), Rémy Zaugg (2004), Louise Lawler (2005), Kirstine Roepstorff (2010 with the Kunstmuseum Basel ) and Ida Ekblad (2013 with the Kunstmuseum Luzern and De Vleeshal , Middelburg). In 2014 Kroksnes curated the thematic group exhibition “Take Liberty” on the subject of human rights with works by u. a. Ai Weiwei , Pussy Riot , Slavs and Tatars, Susan Hiller , Andrea Bowers and John Akomfrah . For the new museum building of the Oslo National Museum , she is working on a Louise Bourgeois and Edvard Munch exhibition for 2019, together with the director of the Norwegian National Gallery, Nils Ohlsen. Kroksnes co-curated the Nordic Pavilion at Francesco Bonami's Venice Biennale in 2003.

Teaching assignments / scientific work

Kroksnes has worked as a lecturer at the University of Lüneburg and at the art academies in Oslo and Bergen and has written texts for catalogs on international artists such as Karin Mamma Andersen, Maja Bajević , Louise Bourgeois , Kristina Braein, Ida Ekblad , Dan Colen , Nathalie Djuberg, Ólafur Elíasson , Matias Faldbakken , Isaac Julien , Louise Lawler , Olaf Metzel , Alexandra Mir, Helen Mirra , Marjetica Potrc , Lara Schnitger , Robert Smithson , Nick Relph & Oliver Payne , Rirkrit Tiravanija , Rémy Zaugg and Knut Åsdam . As a critic, she wrote essays for journals and compendia such as Artforum , Kunst og Kultur, texts on art , Springerin : Hefte für Gegenwartskunst, Siksi: The Nordic Art Review, Parkett and NU.
