Andreas Romar (born September 4, 1989 in Korsholm ) is a former Finnish ski racer . He started in the downhill and Super-G disciplines , his sister Tii-Maria was also a ski racer.

biography

Romar took part in FIS races from November 2004 , and two years later he made his first appearance in the European Cup . After winning no less than eight FIS races at the beginning of the 2006/07 season, he started the World Cup for the first time in the Kitzbühel slalom on January 28, 2007 . There he did not reach the second round and for some time this was his only World Cup appearance. In February 2007 he took part in his first world championship in Åre , Sweden , and finished 42nd in the downhill as the best result. At the beginning of the 2008/09 season he drove to third place in the indoor competition in Amnéville and achieved his first podium result in the European Cup. This winter he started again in three slalom competitions in the World Cup, but did not finish in any of these races.

At his second World Cup in Val-d'Isère in 2009 Romar took part in slalom, but was disqualified in the first run of the qualifying race. At the 2009 Junior World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he won the bronze medal in the downhill. In the 2009/10 season he competed in four slaloms and four giant slaloms in the World Cup, but again did not reach the goal in any race. In the European Cup he achieved his second podium finish at the end of the season in the downhill from Tarvisio . At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , he competed in all five disciplines, finishing 42nd in downhill and 30th in giant slalom.

On January 14th, 2011 Romar won his first World Cup points with 17th place in his 19th World Cup race, the super combined on the Lauberhorn in Wengen . At the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch, he finished ninth in the super combined. In the 2011/12 season , in which he fully concentrated on the World Cup, Romar achieved top 10 results for the first time - twice in the Super G and once in the Super Combined. His best results were two seventh places in the Super-Gs of Val Gardena and Kvitfjell . He finished 15th in both the Super G and Combination World Cups . At the 2013 World Championships in Schladming , he surprised everyone with 4th place in the super combined and 5th place in the downhill. His downhill result was the best of any Finn in this discipline, and his fourth place was the best result in a speed competition since Janne Leskinen at the 1996 World Cup.

In late November 2013, Romar sustained a heel injury while training downhill in Lake Louise . Since she did not heal well, he broke off the 2013/14 season prematurely in January, which also meant that he missed the Winter Olympics in Sochi . After the 2014/15 World Cup season had not started satisfactorily (no result in the points), he had a serious fall on February 21, 2015, just before the finish on the downhill from Saalbach-Hinterglemm . He tore a collateral ligament and a cruciate ligament in his left knee. His best World Cup result in the 2015/16 season was 19th place in the downhill from Garmisch. He suffered another cruciate ligament tear in his left knee at the end of February 2016 during a training drive in Hinterreit, as well as a meniscus injury .

Due to the series of injuries Romar gradually lost touch with the world elite. In the 2016/17 World Cup season he was classified only once in the points (16th place in the combination of Wengen), in the following season a 25th place was his best result. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he did not get past a 24th place in the combination.

After the 2018/19 season , he announced his retirement from active competitive sport.
