Andrej Šťastný (born January 24, 1991 in Považská Bystrica ) is a Slovak ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC 05 Banská Bystrica in the Slovakian Extraliga since August 2018 .
Career
Šťastný played in his youth from 2005 at his hometown club HK 95 Považská Bystrica . He had his season with the best points in the 2007/08 season, when he scored 73 points scorer in 54 games . At the beginning of the 2008/09 season, the striker moved to the youth department of league rival HC Dukla Trenčín . In Trenčín Šťastný stayed for a year and scored 51 points in 51 games. From the 2009/10 season he played for HK Orange 20 , the league team of the Slovak U20 national team, in Slovakia's top division, the Extraliga . The left shooter stayed there until the middle of the 2010/11 season .
At the 2010 CHL Import Draft , Šťastný was selected in 57th position by the Saskatoon Blades from the Western Hockey League . After the player and the club could not agree on a move to North America, the Blades gave up the negotiating rights to Šťastný. The Vancouver Giants signed Šťastný in October 2010. In January 2011, the attacker finally moved to the Western Hockey League to the Giants and completed 32 games in the 2010/11 season , in which he scored 10 goals and a total of 30 points. In the subsequent play-offs, the Vancouver Giants were eliminated in the first round against the Tri-City Americans .
After the season, the Šťastný moved back to his homeland and signed a contract with HC Dukla Trenčín. In July 2012 he received a trial contract with the new KHL participant HC Slovan Bratislava , which was extended to 2014 a month later.
Šťastný has been under contract with HC 05 Banská Bystrica since August 2018 , with whom he won the Slovak championship in 2019 .
International
Andrej Šťastný represented the Slovak national team for the first time at the U18 World Junior Championship in 2009 . The center also played at the U20 Junior World Championships in 2010 and 2011 . In all three competitions, the Slovaks did not get beyond the preliminary round.
