Press review

General meaning

“Writing plain text, sometimes including a bad joke, all these authors dare to do that. One cannot praise that enough when one experiences how seldom it is - or can be - expressed in socio-political debates what is going on. "

About the similarity to Frank Cottrell Boyce

“Because both in his own works [...] and in the translations of the five books by Frank Cottrell Boyce that have been published in this country , you can feel the kinship between the two of them, their love of telling stories, the view of supposedly distant galaxies that turn out to be quite obvious. And the clear, understandable, humorous language used by the two of them is similar, with which they tell of the gray-colored everyday life of children beyond the usual idyll. "

Dilip and the Big Bang and what happened to us afterwards (2012)

“With Dilip and the Big Bang and what happened afterwards, Salah Naoura writes another unusual family story, but remains true to his narrative patterns and at the same time shows how diverse, colorful and demanding the current German-language children's literature has (again) become over the past two years. [...] Similar to his early works, Salah Naoura shows the fragility of the nuclear family and presents unusual constellations of how families can solve problems together. "

- University of Siegen , Faculty 1, Research Center for Writing and Culture

“He also writes poetry, says the moderator. He could now read one. There is silence over the hall, not a devout one, rather a frightened one. Salah Naoura just read from Dilip and the Big Bang so funny . This is a book about a nine-year-old boy who suddenly has a brother, an adopted man from India, who stirs up the family. And now something like that. The man even knows his poems by heart and begins: "You are so wonderfully wicked" - and has already captured the 400 children in front of him again. "I don't know what that is about either / I think you suck up." So that's how it sounds when monsters declare their love for each other. When he asks if he should read something from the book, he yells “Yeah!”. The premiere was a success. Salah Naouras, because he read from this book for the first time, that of the International Literature Festival Berlin , because it is the first event on the big stage in the Haus der Berliner Festspiele on Monday morning. "

- Cornelia Geissler : Writer, do you have a wife? In: Frankfurter Rundschau . 5th September 2012.

Matti and Sami and the Three Biggest Mistakes in the Universe (2011)

“Salah Naoura gives the reader a series of convincing family scenes with quirky, lovingly drawn characters. With verve he uses misunderstandings for great situation comedy and writes funny dialogues in a childish tone and yet full of lacony. "

"Naoura's modern picaresque novel [...] with its pippilang stocking-like" I make the world as I like it "a great pleasure, also thanks to the author's art of letting depth flash through even the most curious fun."

- Elena Geus : Anyone who lies once is believed. In: Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung . 5th August 2012.

"With laconism and a close look at the German-Finnish soul, Salah Naoura tells a surprising summer story full of warmth and humor."

- Jury of the Peter Härtling Prize
