Andrew Whittington (born August 11, 1993 in Melbourne ) is an Australian tennis player .

Career

Whittington made his debut on the ATP World Tour thanks to a wildcard in the men's doubles at the Australian Open 2012 alongside Luke Saville . They lost to their compatriots Colin Ebelthite and Marinko Matosevic in two sets on the opening lap . In 2014 he received another wildcard for the doubles competition, which this time he competed with Alex Bolt . Together they reached the quarter-finals, after beating the reigning world champions, the third-placed Spanish doubles David Marrero and Fernando Verdasco , in three sets in the second round . In the quarterfinals they were defeated in two sets to Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjić . In the world rankings, Andrew Whittington moved up to 119th place after this success. In 2017 he reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open with Marc Polmans . In the world rankings, he was ranked 86th on January 30, 2017 for the first time in the top 100.
