Luke Saville (born February 1, 1994 in Barmera , Riverland ) is an Australian tennis player . In his junior career he won the tournaments at Wimbledon in 2011 and the Australian Open in 2012 and was first in the world rankings in the junior world rankings.

Junior tennis

Saville began playing tennis at the age of five and entered his first ITF tournament in February 2007. He caused a sensation for the first time in June 2011 when he won the junior tournament in Wimbledon with a three-set final against Liam Broady . At the Australian Open 2012 he celebrated his second Grand Slam victory after beating Filip Peliwo 6: 3, 5: 7, 6: 4 in the final. He then takes first place in the junior world rankings.

Beginnings on the ITF and ATP tours

At the future level, Saville reached a final for the first time in Bangkok in May 2012 and won it in three sets against Antoine Escoffier . He has received three wild cards to qualify for the Australian Open so far , but was eliminated each time in the first round. In 2012 he also took part in the qualifications of the ATP tournaments in Brisbane and Sydney . He reached the second round in Brisbane, where he clearly lost to Tatsuma Ito . He also made his Grand Slam debut in 2012 at the Australian Open, when he was allowed to take part in the men's doubles competition parallel to the individual junior competition due to a wildcard . However, he did not get past the first round.

While Saville in January 2014 in the Australian Open in the qualifying failed, he fought his way into Wimbledon through the qualifying to the second round in the main draw, where he Grigor Dimitrov defeated in three sets. In Newport , Saville also reached the second round of the main draw, where he was defeated by Nicolas Mahut .
