Andrzej Maria Cardinal Deskur (born February 29, 1924 in Sancygniów near Kielce , Poland , † September 3, 2011 in the Vatican City ) was a Curia Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Andrzej Maria Deskur, son of a French-born family, studied at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow Jura and became a doctor of law doctorate . During this time, he headed the important Polish student organization Bratniak as general secretary . He later entered the Cracow seminary and in 1950, after studying theology and philosophy, received the sacrament of ordination from Pierre-Marie Cardinal Gerlier . He then completed a doctoral degree at the University of Friborg in Üechtland in Switzerland.

In 1952 Deskur joined the Vatican . From 1954 to 1964 he was undersecretary of the Pontifical Commission for Cinema , Radio and Television , during the Second Vatican Council , during which he was a member of various commissions, he took on press and public relations tasks. In 1973 Pope Paul VI appointed him . as President of the Pontifical Commission for Social Communications . On June 17, 1974 he was appointed by Pope Paul VI. appointed titular bishop of Thenae . The Pope ordained him bishop on June 30, 1974; Co-consecrators were the Offizial in the Secretariat of State , Archbishop Giovanni Benelli , and the secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , Archbishop Duraisamy Simon Lourdusamy .

He became widely known primarily through his commitment to press work. In Asia he played a major role in the development of the Catholic radio station Radio Veritas .

Deskur died on September 3, 2011 in his apartment in Palazzo San Carlo at the age of 87.
