Angelo Mottola

Angelo Mottola (born January 10, 1935 in Aversa , Caserta province , Italy , † October 8, 2014 in Rome ) was an Italian clergyman, Roman Catholic archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

Angelo Mottola received in the April 2, 1960 Cathedral of the diocese of Porto-Santa Rufina by Eugène Cardinal Tisserant the priesthood . In 1963 he was made after a dissertation on the topic The Sacrifice in the second period of the Council of Trent at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas to Dr. theol. received his doctorate and entered the service of the Holy See that same year . Here he initially worked for the Congregation for the Eastern Churches . Pope Paul VI bestowed on him on August 11, 1971 the title of chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ). On January 29, 1983, Pope John Paul II awarded him the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness . From 1986 he worked in the administration of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples .

On July 16, 1999, John Paul II appointed him Titular Archbishop of Cercina and Apostolic Nuncio to Iran . He was ordained bishop by Cardinal Secretary of State Angelo Sodano on September 21, 1999 in St. Peter's Basilica ; Co- consecrators were the secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , Curia Archbishop Marcello Zago OMI and Archbishop Mario Milano , Bishop of Aversa .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on January 25, 2007 as Apostolic Nuncio in Montenegro and on February 17, 2010, accepted his resignation due to reasons of age.

Angelo Mottola was a member of the Teutonic Order since 2013 .
