Jean-Paul Gobel
Jean-Paul Aimé Gobel (born May 14, 1943 in Thonon-les-Bains , Haute-Savoie , France ) is a diplomat of the Holy See .
Life
The Bishop of Annecy , Jean-Baptiste Sauvage , ordained him a priest on June 29, 1969 . After training in canon law at the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy in Rome from 1972 to 1974, he worked in the nunciatures of the Holy See in Australia , Mozambique , Nicaragua , Burundi and the Philippines . Pope Paul VI bestowed on him on May 14, 1976 the honorary title of chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ).
December 7, 1993 Pope appointed him John Paul II. To Titular Archbishop of Calatia and Apostolic Nuncio in Armenia and Georgia and donated him on 6 January 1994 in St. Peter's Basilica , the episcopal ordination ; Co-consecrators were the Archbishops of the Curia Giovanni Battista Re and Josip Uhač .
In 1994 he was also appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Azerbaijan . On December 6, 1997 he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Senegal , Guinea-Bissau , Mali and Cape Verde . In Mauritania he worked as an apostolic administrator. On October 31, 2001, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Nicaragua . Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on October 10, 2007 as Apostolic Nuncio to Iran .
On January 5, 2013, he was received by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Egypt and appointed Delegate of the Holy See to the Arab League . It is also intended to revive the long-standing dialogue process with the Islamic Azhar University . He held the office of Apostolic Nuncio until January 3, 2015.
