Leo Boccardi (born April 15, 1953 in San Martino in Pensilis , Campobasso Province , Italy ) is a Roman Catholic Archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .
Life
Leo Boccardi received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Larino on June 24, 1979 in St. Peter's Basilica from Pope John Paul II . He was in the subject Catholic Theology doctorate .
On June 13, 1987, Leo Boccardi entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See . He worked in the Apostolic Nunciatures in Uganda , Papua New Guinea and Belgium as well as in the Vatican State Secretariat . On January 8, 1990, John Paul II awarded him the honorary title of Chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ). On March 17, 2001, John Paul II appointed him permanent observer at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) , the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) , the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Office of the United Nations in Vienna .
On January 16, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . the Titular Archbishop of Bitettum and ordered him to Apostolic Nuncio in Sudan . On January 30, 2007 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. in addition to the Apostolic Nuncio in Eritrea . He received his episcopal ordination on March 18, 2007, Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB in the pilgrimage church of San Pio da Pietrelcina in San Giovanni Rotondo ; Co- consecrators were the Secretary for Relations with States in the Vatican State Secretariat, Archbishop Dominique Mamberti , and the Bishop of Termoli-Larino , Gianfranco De Luca .
On July 11, 2013, Pope Francis appointed Boccardi as Apostolic Nuncio to Iran .
