The name Anita was given in German-speaking countries towards the end of the 19th century. The loan was probably not directly from Spanish , but from the Italian area . In Italy the spread of this name goes back to the wife of the freedom fighter Giuseppe Garibaldi , Anita (Anna Maria) Ribeira.
