Anna-Lena Portmann , b. Büdenbender (born December 10, 1985 ) is a German grass skier . She became world champion in giant slalom in 2009 and won the overall world cup in the 2010 season . In addition, she won a further seven medals at world championships, numerous medals at junior world championships and the overall ranking of the German Cup several times . She has lived in Escholzmatt in Switzerland since 2008 , trains with the Swiss team and has been married to the Swiss grass skier Stefan Portmann since autumn 2011 . Her sister Katharina Büdenbender was also a grass skier.

Career

Büdenbender started grass skiing as a child and finally decided to do this sport at the age of 14. She won her first world championship medals at the age of 15. At the 2001 World Cup in Forni di Sopra , she won bronze in both slalom and combination. With fourth place in the slalom and seventh place in the Super-G, she also came third in the combination at the 2003 World Cup . Büdenbender won two silver medals in slalom and in combination at the 2005 World Championships in Dizin . She was also fourth in the giant slalom and fifth in the Super-G. Also at the 2007 World Championships in Olešnice v Orlických horách , with third place in the giant slalom, another medal was added. In the Super-G, she finished fifth and in the Super Combined, at the same time as the Italian Antonella Manzoni, eighth. Only in the slalom did she not finish. She also won numerous medals at the Junior World Championships. For example, she won the giant slalom and the super-G in 2004 and the slalom and the combination in 2005 . In 2006 she won the overall ranking of the German Cup for the last time.

Büdenbender achieved first top place in the overall World Cup in the 2006 season . In World Cup races, she achieved two third places in the giant slalom of České Petrovice and in the slalom of Sattel, as well as another four placements among the best six. In addition, she won four FIS races , which brought her to second place in the overall World Cup behind the clearly superior Austrian Ingrid Hirschhofer . After a fourth place in the 2007 season and third place in 2008 , she again achieved second place overall behind Ingrid Hirschhofer in the 2009 season . At the 2009 World Championships in Rettenbach , Büdenbender was on the podium for the first time in international championships. She won the gold medal in the giant slalom with just under half a second ahead of the Czech Zuzana Gardavská and was second behind Gardavská in the super combined. In addition, there was fourth place in the Super-G and fifth in the slalom.

The World Cup 2010 season began Büdenbender with four wins in the giant slalom and slalom of Čenkovice and in the giant slalom and in the super combination of Goldingen . After she had decided not to take part in the races in Dizin and only finished sixth in the Faistenau slalom , she won the Super-G and the giant slalom at the World Cup finals in Italy. In the two final slaloms she finished seventh and dropped out after a serious fall, but she won the overall World Cup for the first time with her six World Cup victories and another eight victories in FIS races. This ended Ingrid Hirschhofer's successful streak, who had previously won the overall standings eight times in a row. The native Hainchenerin climbed from second to first place in the world rankings.

In the first seven races of the 2011 World Cup season , Büdenbender achieved two wins and four second places, which put them in the lead in the overall standings before the season finale. At the 2011 World Championship in Goldingen , however, she had a hard fall in the first race shortly before the finish. She was classified sixth in this Super-G by falling through the finish line, but could not take part in the World Cup final two weeks later, which is why she dropped to third place in the overall World Cup. In October 2011 Büdenbender married the Swiss grass skier Stefan Portmann . Since then she has started under her new surname Portmann. In the 2012 season , Portmann took part in six of the twelve World Cup races. She achieved a victory in the Super-G of San Sicario as well as three second and two fourth places, which she was sixth in the overall World Cup.
