The Anton Chekhov ( Russian Антон Чехов , dt. Transcription: Anton Chekhov) is the first river cruise ship of Anton Chekhov class , Project Q-056, which in 1978 under the hull number 713 on the Austrian shipyards AG Linz in Korneuburg / Austria built and on June 30, 1978 in the port of Galați in Romania to the client, Vsessojusnoje objedinenije "Sudoimport" (Russian Всесоюзное объединение "Судоимпорт"), for use in Krasnoyarsk on the Yenisei . The ship was named after the Russian writer Anton Chekhov and is used on the Moscow - Rostov-on-Don route. The sister ship of the Anton Chekhov is the Lev Tolstoy ( Russian Лев Толстой , German transcription: Lev Tolstoy).

history

The river cruise ships of the Anton Chekhov class, project Q-056, ordered and built in the west for petrodollars in the 1970s by the Österreichische Schiffswerften AG Linz in Korneuburg / Austria surpassed all passenger ships manufactured in the GDR and Czechoslovakia in terms of comfort and sometimes even more Size, although the German ships of Project 302 - German designation BiFa 129М - have a length of 129 m. The previously built river cruise ships (including the three-deck ships of the Rodina class (GDR) and Project 26–37 from Czechoslovakia) could not be compared with it. Even these had no chances in the competition. Neither sooner nor later were such orders for river cruise ships possible in the history of Russia. A swimming pool on board the Soviet fleet could only be found on the ships that were built in Austria.

The construction of two ships, order No. 77-03 / 80010-111, was commissioned on December 30, 1975, the keel-laying took place on November 4, 1976. The launch took place on June 17, 1977. In order to be able to pass the low Danube bridges, not only had the superstructure, wheelhouse, cinema and chimney to be dismantled, but the ship had to be filled with over 300 tons of water, which was not enough, which is why first the bow and then the stern was lowered even lower. In Romania the ship was reassembled and handed over to the client. There were three attempts to anchor the ultra-modern ship on the Volga at the shipping company "Wolschskoje Rechnoje Parochodstvo" (Volga River Shipping Company) in Nizhny Novgorod , as the ship was very popular with the local party officials. In addition, the ship was too wide for the White Sea-Baltic Canal , so the Anton Chekhov had to undertake a 13,000 km journey. While no obstacles arose in friendly neighboring countries such as Finland , Sweden and Denmark , the crossing in Norwegian waters was banned by local authorities in the Skagerrak . Thanks to her high sea qualities and the class “M” (M for “море” equals “the sea”), the Anton Chekhov crossed the Arctic Ocean via Dikson and landed in Dudinka on the Yenisei on September 7th . Until 2003, the Anton Chekhov was the flagship of the Yenisei fleet on the Krasnoyarsk - Dikson route. After the transfer to the European part of Russia in October 2003, it was additionally rebuilt. 2011–2012 it was used according to the timetable on the route Moscow - Uglich - Yaroslavl - Nizhny Novgorod - Kosmodemyansk - Cheboksary - Kazan - Samara - Saratov - Volgograd - Astrakhan - Volgograd - Starocherkasskaya - Rostov-on-Don.
