Anton Zingerle

Anton Zingerle (born February 1, 1842 in Meran , † December 7, 1910 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian classical philologist .

Life

Zingerle was the son of the Merano merchant Bartlmä Tobias Zingerle, nephew of Pius Zingerle , and the younger brother of Ignaz Vinzenz and Josef Zingerle . After attending grammar school in his hometown, he moved to the University of Innsbruck , where he completed his studies in philology in 1865. Between 1864 and 1866 he worked as a teacher at the kk grammar school in Verona and used this to visit many cities in northern Italy during this time . In 1866 he moved to the kk grammar school in Trient as a professor , where he also held the office of district school inspector for the German schools in Welschtirol . After obtaining his doctorate in 1869 at the University of Tübingen in absentia , he changed to professor at the kk grammar school in Innsbruck. In 1872 he completed his habilitation at the University of Innsbruck, where he was appointed associate professor in 1873 and full professor of classical philology in 1877 (with effect from January 1, 1878). From 1887 he was co-director of the Philological Seminary.

One of the main focuses of his studies was on the Roman poet Ovid .
