Arnold Feil

Arnold Feil (born October 2, 1925 in Mannheim ; † March 30, 2019 in Tübingen ) was a German musicologist and university professor .

Life

Feil was born in Mannheim, but grew up in Ludwigshafen am Rhein . He holds a degree in music ( piano and conducting ) at the music schools in Mannheim and Heidelberg as well as a degree in musicology , the Latin Philology of the Middle Ages , the history (Middle Ages), the philosophy and art history at the University of Heidelberg , he with a Ph.D. Graduated in 1954. From 1954 to 1958 he worked as a music officer at the cultural office of the city of Ludwigshafen am Rhein. From 1959 to 1982 he was a lecturer in musicology at the University of Stuttgart ; at the same time lecturer for musicology at the University of Applied Sciences for Libraries in Stuttgart .

He received his habilitation at the University of Tübingen in 1965 and was an adjunct professor of musicology there from 1972 . After working as professor of music history at the State University of Music and Performing Arts in Hanover in 1977 and 1978 , he was professor of musicology again in Tübingen from 1979 to 1988 .

In 1965 he was one of the founders of the International Franz Schubert Society, which published the New Schubert Edition , in which Feil played a key role until he retired.

On the occasion of Feil's 90th birthday, the University of Tübingen hosted a ceremony on October 13, 2015 with greetings from Jürgen Leonhardt and Thomas Schipperges . The lecture entitled "Arnold Feil: 60 Years of Music Research" was given by Walther Dürr , music contributions came from Jörg Büchler, Andreas Flad and Naomi Kautt.
