Arthur Robert Ludwig Alexander Freiherr von Gillern (born April 4, 1855 in Altwasser, Glogau district , † May 4, 1916 in Berlin-Lichterfelde ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Arthur was the son of the property manager Friedrich von Gillern (1828–1897) and his wife Marie, née Lutze (1829–1877).

Military career

Gillern attended the Protestant grammar school in Glogau and the cadet houses in Wahlstadt and Berlin . He then joined the Lower Silesian Field Artillery Regiment No. 5 of the Prussian Army on April 19, 1873 as an extra-budgetary second lieutenant . For further training he attended the United Artillery and Engineering School from September 1875 to June 1876 and was transferred to Posensche Field Artillery Regiment No. 20 in mid-September 1876 . Gillern acted from October 1878 to September 1881 as an adjutant of the I. Department. This was followed from mid-July 1882 onwards in the 1st Guard Field Artillery Regiment , where Gillern rose to become captain and battery chief in mid-June 1888 . In the same capacity, he was transferred to Field Artillery Regiment No. 35 on September 14, 1893 . Due to the death of his wife, Gillern took a year off from work on November 18, 1893.

At his own request, he returned to the active relationship in mid-February 1894 and served as battery chief in the 2nd Pomeranian Field Artillery Regiment No. 17 . Gillern was relieved of this position on March 22, 1897, and on August 18, 1897, he was appointed major in command of the 1st division in the field artillery regiment "von Scharnhorst" (1st Hannoversches) No. 10 . On July 3, 1902, he was initially commissioned to lead the field artillery regiment "Prince Regent Luitpold von Bayern" (Magdeburgisches) No. 4 and on January 27, 1903 he was appointed commander of this association . His regiment chief Luitpold von Bayern awarded Gillern the Officer's Cross of the Order of Military Merit and by mid-April 1907 he was promoted to colonel . After he had been entrusted with the command of the 17th Field Artillery Brigade in Schwerin on February 20, 1909 , Gillern was appointed brigade commander on March 24, 1909. In this position he was awarded the Crown Order II. Class on the occasion of the festival in January 1911 and advanced to Major General on March 20, 1911 . In addition, he received the Grand Commander of the Order of the Griffin on May 23, 1911 and the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves, on January 12, 1913 . In mid-July 1912, Gillern fell ill with a serious heart condition. Thereupon he was put up for disposition on February 18, 1913, giving him the character of Lieutenant General with a pension .

Gillern was a legal knight of the Order of St. John . He died on May 4, 1916 in Berlin-Lichterfelde and was buried in the park cemetery there.

Gillern married Anna Strobell (1862-1894) on March 30, 1882 in Berlin. The couple had several children:
