The motor ship Artur Becker was a former supply ship of the People's Navy that had been converted into a training ship for the recreational divers training of the GST .

history

The Artur Becker before 2010

The logger 236 Ruden , built in 1951 at the Roßlau shipyard , was used as a supply logger ( auxiliary ship ) for the Volksmarine until it was decommissioned on October 29, 1971 . In 1971 the ship was named after the communist Artur Becker, who was shot in the Spanish Civil War in 1938, and now served as a training ship for the pre-military training of the Society for Sport and Technology at their GST naval school "August Lütgens" in Greifswald-Wieck . In 1982 the Artur Becker was converted into a diver training ship and then continued to be used with the GST. The ship's training trips led into the Baltic Sea, with ports in the then People's Republic of Poland and the Soviet Union being called.

In 1990 the Hanseatic City of Greifswald took over the sponsorship via Artur Becker and in 1992 left the ship to Tauchsportclub Greifswald e. V. for use. The Artur Becker became the largest diving ship for recreational divers on the Baltic Sea and in spring and autumn she served as a base for deep-sea fishing trips to the Adlergrund between the island of Rügen and the Danish Bornholm . During her time as a training ship from 1971 to 2010, she was driven by a total of six captains (first captain: Horst Fechner [1971–76], Horst Berkowitz [1976–79], Peter Batrow [1979–80], Herbert Breitsprecher [ 1980–88], Volker Behm [1988–91], last captain: Karl-Heinz Hanke [1992–2010], also K. with the longest period of service of 18 years). On December 1, 2010, Greifswald sold the logger to a Danish company for € 81,100 after various rescue attempts for further use via Vebeg . On December 2, 2012, the ship was reported as scrapped.

Furnishing

On board the Artur Becker , a maximum of 29 people could be accommodated in two large shared decks (12 people each), two double and one single cabin. A decompression chamber was built into the bow . The ship was equipped with differential GPS , echo sounder and radar .
