Ash-Sharqiyya ( Arabic محافظة الشرقية Muhāfazat asch-Scharqīya , DMG Muḥāfaẓat aš-Šarqīya , German "the Eastern" , Egyptian-Arabic Muḥāfẓet El Sharʔiya ), also Sharkia , is a governorate in Egypt with 5,354,041 inhabitants and is located in the eastern Nile Delta .
It is bordered by the ad-Daqahliyya governorate to the north, the Bur Sa anid and al-Ismaʿiliyya governorates to the east, the al-Qahira governorate to the south, and the al-Qalyubiyya and al-Gharbiyya governorates to the west . The administrative center is Zagazig .
