Ashok Mehta
Ashok Mehta (* 1947 in Punjab , India ; † 15. August 2012 in Mumbai , Maharashtra , India) was an Indian cinematographer , film director , screenwriter and film producer , who twice the Silver Lotus Award of the National Film Award won.
Life
Mehta began his career in the Indian film industry in 1978 as a cameraman for the film Lal Kothi and as a production manager for the film Karmayogi .
In 1981 he first received the National Film Award for Best Cinematography ( Silver Lotus Award ) for the color film 36 Chowringhee Lane by director Aparna Sen with Jennifer Kendal and Dhritiman Chatterjee in the lead roles .
Mehta, who starred in the films Ijaazat (1987) and Dil Tera Aashiq (1993), won the 1996 Star Screen Award for Best Cinematography for the camera work in Trimurti (1995) by Mukul Anand with Shah Rukh Khan and Jackie Shroff . In 1997 he was honored with the Filmfare Award for best camera in the film Bandit Queen (1994) about Phoolan Devi by director Shekhar Kapur with Seema Biswas and Nirmal Pandey in the leading roles.
He received another National Film Award for best camera in 2001 for Moksha: Salvation , for which he was both a film producer and director as well as writing the screenplay. The main roles were played by Arjun Rampal and Manisha Koirala .
Other well-known Bollywood films in which he worked as a cameraman were Gupt: The Hidden Truth (1997) by Rajiv Rai with Bobby Deol and Kajol , Gaja Gamini (2000) by Maqbul Fida Husain with Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit , Nur dein Heart knows the truth (2003) by Naresh Malhotra with Aishwarya Rai and Arjun Rampal, Chalte Chalte - Where fate leads us (2003) by Aziz Mirza with Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji , Kisna - In the fire of love (2005) by Subhash Gai with Vivek Oberoi and Isha Sharvani and No Entry - no fling! (2005) by Anees Bazmee with Anil Kapoor and Salman Khan .
