Association of IOC Recognized International Sports Federations

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Association of IOC Recognized International Sports Federations ( ARISF ) (German: Association of sports associations recognized by the IOC ) is part of the Olympic movement . It brings together the sports associations that are recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) but are not currently represented with a competition at the Olympic Games.

Recognition by the IOC is a prerequisite for inclusion of a sport in the program of the Olympic Games . The association was founded in 1984 and is based in Lausanne, Switzerland . ARISF President is the President of the Union Internationale Motonautique , Raffaele Chiulli . From 1921 to 1940 there was the Permanent Bureau of the International Sports Federations ( Bureau Permanant des Fédérations Internationales Sportives ) based in Paris, which met every four years for a congress and in which each sport had two votes. In 1933, 26 international professional associations belonged to the association, including motor and winter sports.
