history

The first historical mention of the Uttenhofer iron hammer , which was owned by Veit Hans Schnorr von Carolsfeld at the end of the 17th century , took place in 1526. Here tinplate was manufactured as a starting point for all kinds of household items. From this hammer mill the Argentanfabrik in Aue developed by the beginning of the 19th century , whose importance lay in the first production of Argentan , an alloy for the production of cutlery , developed by Ernst August Geitner . The new type of rolled material subsequently served as the basis for other metalworking companies to settle in Aue. In the 1820s, various non-ferrous metals were processed into semi-finished products such as sheet metal , rods and tubes in the Argentan factory . After Geitner's death in 1858, Franz Adolph Lange took over the factory and named it Dr. Geitner's Argentanfabrik F. A. Lange around.

Another important stage was the takeover of the Argentan and Argentanwarenfabrik von Lindner und Unger, founded opposite Geitner's factory in 1842, in 1885.

An advertisement from the 1890s reads:

“FA Lange, Auerhammer near Aue. Defeat of my works under my own company Berlin C, Seydelstrasse 14, Klingenthal in Saxony; Prague, Heuwagsplatz 9; Vienna II, Westbahnstrasse 5; Paris Boulevard Voltaire 1; Neuchâtel, Faubourg du Crêt 23. Sister plants: Sächs. Copper and brass works FA Lange, Grünthal iS with wire and rolling mills 'Schweinitzmühle' near Böhmisch-Grünthal. (And): Representations in all major locations in Germany and abroad "

A look at the Berlin address book of those years confirms the aforementioned branch.

In 1914 the Argentan factory employed more than 1,000 people. In 1918, developers at the plant succeeded in clad copper on steel for the first time . In 1931 the Auerhammer Metallwerk was transformed into the limited company F. A. Lange, Metallwaren AG .

The factory, farm and administrative buildings erected in the course of development have mostly not been preserved. However, the Hammerherrenhaus testifies to the successful production activity and is a listed building. After the end of the Second World War , the factory was almost completely dismantled and served as a reparation payment for the Soviet Union . It was not until 1948 that a publicly owned company (VEB) with the name VEB Halbzeugwerk Auerhammer emerged from the former stock corporation in the remaining halls , which later belonged to the mining and smelting combine "Albert Funk" Freiberg . The production of semi-finished products was resumed. The switch to available raw materials from the region such as iron , nickel and cobalt led to the development and manufacture of special alloys (iron-nickel, iron-cobalt and iron-nickel-cobalt) to secure production. Thermobimetals were a new material . The product range was expanded in 1966 to include melt-in alloys. At peak times, the semi-finished product plant employed 1,700 people who produced special materials, primarily for electrical engineering , electronics , medical technology , BMSR technology and for scientific device construction.

The technology of cold roll cladding has been available since 1984, which combines the operations of cold rolling and cladding. From the 1960s onwards, the management had the historic factory halls gradually replaced with new buildings and social facilities such as a company canteen added. To expand the production of cold rolled products, for example, the foundation stone for the new Hall 1 was laid in 1981 in the presence of high-ranking politicians from the GDR .

After the reunification , after a phase of fiduciary management, the transition to the new legal form took place in 1990 with the entry in the commercial register . The VEB Halbzeugwerk Auerhammer became Auerhammer Metallwerk GmbH with some of the workers and employees as well as through further use of the existing systems. The first ISO 9001 certification happened in 1994.

In parallel with the continuation of production, the large area of the former semi-finished product plants was cleared and several buildings were demolished. The Hammerherrenhaus was renovated, the other buildings, which were also renovated, could be used for other purposes. The renovation of the company premises was completed in 2008.

Products

Clad products include thermal bimetals and cladding for coins . In addition, there are metal strips made of soft unalloyed steel with various metal layers, strips made of stainless steel or metallic material combinations as well as metallic foils according to customer requirements.
