August Friedrich Erdmann von Krafft

August Friedrich Erdmann von Krafft (* June 1748 in Wandersleben ; † August 6, 1822 in Breslau ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and chief of the 11th Dragoon Regiment .

Life

Military career

He was initially in the service of Saxe-Gotha and changed to Prussian service during the Seven Years' War in 1762 . Krafft was employed as a Junker in the “von Kleist” free dragon regiment. After the war he was taken over on December 1, 1764 as a cornet in the cuirassier regiment "von Bredow" . There he became a lieutenant on May 10, 1769 and took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . In the following years Krafft rose to major by August 1789 and participated as such in the campaign in Poland in 1794/95 . Then on June 17, 1798 he became lieutenant colonel and on June 16, 1799 colonel . On August 23, 1802 he was promoted to regimental commander. At the revue on August 22, 1804, Krafft received the order Pour le Mérite and on March 20, 1806 he was promoted to major general with a patent from June 4, 1806. On August 19, 1806 he was also appointed chief of the "von Voss" dragoon regiment and had to surrender in the same year during the fourth coalition war near Prenzlau .

Due to the Prussian defeat, Krafft was made inactive from November 19, 1807 after the Peace of Tilsit and received half his salary . He then tried to be used in the gendarmerie , but this was rejected on April 20, 1812. Instead he became commander of Breslau ad interim on March 8, 1813 during the absence of the actual commander, but on May 29, 1813 he was relieved of his position. On July 26, 1815, Krafft received his departure with a pension of 1000 thalers. In addition, on January 15, 1818 he was given the character of Lieutenant General.

Krafft married Karoline von Podewils (* 1763; † April 9, 1836) in 1782 . The couple had the following children:
