The Azores Express is the least of the Italian Moby Lines under the name Moby Love used ferry , the 1975 Saint Eloi was put into service. The ship, which last operated between Piombino and Portoferraio from September 2002 to March 2017 , is being converted for use in the Azores .

history

The Saint Eloi was on 2 January 1971, the hull number 12 at Cantieri Navali di Pietra Ligure in Pietra Ligure on down Kiel and from the Feb. 26, 1972 left stack . However, due to financial difficulties of the shipping company, the construction could not be completed. It was not until February 1975 that it was finally taken over by the Angleterre-Lorraine-Alsace Société Anonyme de Navigation. On March 12, 1975, the ship began ferry service between Dunkerque and Dover .

On May 1, 1987, the Saint Eloi collided with the RoRo freighter Cambridge Ferry in Dover , causing both ships to be slightly damaged. In August of the same year, the ship switched to the route from Newhaven to Dieppe , before returning to its original route in April 1988.

In May 1989 the Saint Eloi was renamed Channel Entente and used after a stay in the shipyard between Dover and Calais . In February 1990 the ship went to the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company , who moved it to the route from Douglas to Heysham and Liverpool . After a modernization in Birkenhead in September 1990, it was named King Orry in December 1990 .

After almost eight more years in service, the King Orry was sold as Moby Love to the Italian shipping company Moby Lines in October 1998 . After arriving in Livorno , she was named Moby Love 2 and began serving between Piombino and Portoferraio. In 2002 the ship was renamed Moby Love again. After a brief deployment on the route from Piombino to Bastia in the summer of 2002, the Moby Love was back in service between Piombino and Portoferraio since September 2002, where it operated until March 22, 2017. The ship was then brought to Genoa , where it was laid up .

In September of the same year the Moby Love went to the Italian Portucalence Shipping Company and was named Aeolos in November 2017 . In the same month, the ferry became the property of the Greek Med Lines Shipping Company. The ship is moored in the port of Drapetsona , where it will be converted for further use. It has been called Azores Express since 2019 .
