description

Bloom in detail

Vegetative characteristics

The Bohemian Yellow Star is a perennial herbaceous plant that usually reaches heights of 2 to 5 centimeters. The plant has two bulbs of unequal size that are in a common shell. All leaves are basal. The one or two basal leaves are 0.5 to 1 millimeter wide, whitish or greenish at the base, half-stemmed, glabrous and have a weak longitudinal groove on the upper side. The green stem is almost always bare at the bottom and mostly more or less hairy at the top. On the stem there are usually 3 to 5 mostly alternate, 2 to 5 millimeter wide bracts narrowed into a thin tip . The lower bracts are generally broader and glabrous while the upper ones are narrower and ciliate.

Generative characteristics

The flowering period of the Bohemian Yellow Star extends in Central Europe from February to March. Since the Bohemian Yellow Star is lazy to flower, it often forms flowerless lawns from thread-like leaves. The inflorescence usually has one to two and up to four flowers. The 5 to 20 millimeter long flower stalks are mostly hairy ( trichomes ). The hermaphrodite flowers are radial symmetry and threefold. The 9 to 19 millimeter long bare tepals have a spatulate, rounded shape, are yellow on the inside and have a green central stripe on the outside. There are six stamens . The ovary is upper constant and the stylus bare.

Chromosome set

The basic number of chromosomes is x = 12. Different polyploidy levels occur. Chromosome numbers of 2n = 24, 36 and 60 occur in the Bohemian yellow star .

ecology

The Bohemian Yellow Star is a geophyte . He avoids lime .

Occurrence

The Bohemian yellow star is common in large parts of Europe except in the north . He appears in all countries of the German-speaking area . In Austria , the occurrences are limited to the federal states of Lower Austria , here particularly to the northwestern Weinviertel , and northern Burgenland . The Bohemian Yellow Star is considered endangered.

In Austria, Bohemia yellow star in occurs Pannonian area rarely rare to very shallow to profound silicate - dry grasslands and rocky and gravel plains in the collinen height step on. It is a characteristic species of Gageo-Veronicetum dillenii from the Association Sedo Veronicion. In Central Europe it thrives best on slate , porphyry , Oberrotliegendem , but also on tertiary limestone .

Taxonomy

The first publication took place in 1776 under the name ( Basionym ) Ornithogalum bohemicum by Johann Baptista Josef Zauschner (1737-1799). The new combination to Gagea bohemica (Zauschn.) Schult. & Schult. f. was published in 1829 by Joseph August Schultes and Julius Hermann Schultes .

Gagea bohemica and Gagea saxatilis were sometimes used as separate taxa , i.e. H. as two different species (or subspecies ). In 2008, some authors are of the opinion that this separation is unsustainable and that both names refer to the same species.
