Bach's work has been interpreted three times in Salzburg by classical symphony orchestras , the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonics , and three times by original sound ensembles. The interpretations were also very different in terms of scoring, tempos and intonation. The grand and lofty style of Karajan or Muti contrasts sharply with the intimate and brisk performance of the Czech conductor Václav Luks in 2015. The press wrote about his interpretation:
“The movements of church music in the 'Stile antico', some of which are traditionally noted in particularly long values and which were psychologically responsible for the exceptionally broad tempi up to Karl Richter , are now felt by historically versed young interpreters like Václav Luks in a particularly fluid alla breve pulse . To do this, he takes a little more time with some modern numbers. Above all, however, it does not occur to Luks to spell out the Kyrie fugue theme right away. Rather, the brilliant vocal and instrumental powers of his Collegium 1704 (with about two dozen singers) are governed by a flowing legato, which does not contradict style, but gives the performance suppleness and elegance. [...] Grateful cheers. "
