View of Laimnau

Laimnau is a district of the Baden-Württemberg city of Tettnang , which belongs to the village of Langnau and is located in the Argental . It is best known for the campsite in the neighboring town of Badhütten. Laimnau has around 2080 inhabitants.

geography

Laimnau is about six kilometers from the northern shore of Lake Constance and about five kilometers southeast of Tettnang.

The Argen , whose river bed is particularly extensive here, flows through the local area south of the town center. The Bollenbach flows right through the center of the village and flows into the Argen in the west of Laimnau.

The remote district of Badhütten is home to a larger campsite, which, together with a restaurant and an agricultural area with an animal enclosure, also serves as a local recreation area. From here a footbridge leads over the Argen into neighboring Unterlangnau .

history

It is very likely that there was a Roman fort on the Drachenstein . Today's Laimnau was first written down in 769 as “Laimnaugawilare”. The Celtic landowner named “Scalcomannus” donated all of his property from Laimnau, Apflau , Gießen and Oberdorf to the Swiss monastery of St. Gallen and entered the monastery himself.

The deed of donation in Latin script at that time has an adventurous past. It was robbed by soldiers during the Thirty Years War (1618–1648) and brought to Bremen . After the Second World War, the Bremen city administration gave the document back to the St. Gallen Monastery - as a thank you for the Swiss government's help to the German people after the Third Reich .

About 600 years later (1353) the village had 100 buildings, which corresponded to an approximate population of 200 citizens. Thus it was one of the most densely populated rural areas in the region of eastern Lake Constance . The school was built in 1834. In 1838 there were 467 Catholic residents.

According to the description of the Upper Office Tettnang from 1838, Laimnau was sold to the Lindau Hospital in 1388 by the Konstanz Cathedral Chapter. In 1805 it became Bavarian, in 1810 it fell to the Kingdom of Württemberg. As an independent municipality, which included also Apflau, casting, Gitzensteig, Unterwolfertsweiler and Wiesach, Laimnau was until 1972 the upper office or district Tettnang .

politics

Town twinning

The town twinning with the Croatian town of Ivanić-Grad resulted from the good relationships between the two handball teams from Laimnau and Ivanic. An exchange takes place every year, in which a large number of citizens on both sides actively participate.

Culture and sights

Saint Christopher

In the landscape and nature reserves around the Argen you enter a unique natural landscape with a remarkable flora and fauna. For example the Tettnang Forest or the “ Ice Age edges of the Argental with Argenaue ”. The Argen itself is one of the last white water rivers in Baden-Württemberg. Their natural character has been preserved, especially in the upper reaches.

Also worth seeing is the statue of the Laimnau patron saint Saint Christophorus at the Laimnau Argenbrücke. This cultural monument was built in 2005 by the “Tractor Friends from Argental”.
