The Eggmühl Station is an operating agency of railway lines Munich-Regensburg and Eggmühl-Langquaid . It is the only regular train station in the area of the market town of Schierling in the Upper Palatinate district of Regensburg .

location

Eggmühl station is located at 113.4 km on the double-track , electrified Munich – Regensburg main line (route number 5500). The single-track, non-electrified branch line Eggmühl – Langquaid (route number 5631) branches off to the south-west of the station , on which the Rhein-Sieg-Eisenbahn carries out goods traffic and - on special occasions such as the market Sundays in Schierling and Langquaid - passenger traffic. The station has four tracks , three of which are platform tracks. The two middle tracks, each with a platform edge, form the continuous main tracks .

The station is located between the Schierlinger districts Eggmühl in the northwest and Unterdeggenbach in the southeast. The former station building has the address Bahnhofstraße 11 and is located northwest of the track system. The station area begins around 300 meters southwest of the flyover of Bundesstraße 15 and ends around 100 meters northeast of the Zaitzkofener Straße overpass . The station area is delimited on the Eggmühler side by Bahnhofstraße and a P + R facility, on the Unterdeggenbacher side by the Hochweg and the adjacent buildings.

history

Eggmühl station went into operation on August 6, 1873 as an intermediate station on the route from Neufahrn via Eggmühl to Obertraubling. This was built as a shortcut for the line from Neufahrn via Geiselhöring and Sünching to Obertraubling, which was released in 1859 . The travel time between Landshut and Regensburg has been shortened considerably thanks to the route via Eggmühl.

The importance of the station increased in 1903 with the opening of the branch line to Langquaid. Eggmühl thus became a station of separation . Passenger traffic was carried out on the branch line until 1968 and freight traffic until 1999. Just one year later, the Rhein-Sieg-Eisenbahn (RSE) took over a large part of the route from DB Netz , and in 2005 the entire route from Eggmühl to Langquaid. Since 2001, the RSE has been running regular freight traffic with block trains on the branch line in cooperation with DB Cargo and a museum railway operation a few days a year , which is handled via Eggmühl station.

From 1933 to 2004, a mechanical signal box of the standard design was in operation in Eggmühl . The associated signal box building at the northeast end of the station area has been preserved. On April 30, 2004, there was an electronic interlocking replaced resulting from the operations center is remotely controlled Munich.

Today Eggmühl is an important stop for commuters to Regensburg who come from the market town of Schierling and the surrounding communities. Between 1995 and 1999, Eggmühl station was therefore rebuilt for the equivalent of 1.6 million euros. A pedestrian underpass and a P + R facility were built. The latter has already been expanded twice, in 2006 and 2018.

Infrastructure

The station has three platform tracks on the house platform (track 1) and an island platform (tracks 2 and 3). The fourth track is not used for passenger traffic . The approximately 50 meter long house platform is only used when the museum railway is in operation. In regular operation, only the 278 meter long island platform is used; here the platform edges are each 76 centimeters above the top edge of the rails . The island platform is connected via a pedestrian underpass with two level entrances on the Eggmühler and Unterdeggenbacher side of the station. A long ramp provides access to the platform ; the station is therefore considered to be barrier-free . He has digital displays . The station building has been preserved to this day, but is no longer accessible to passengers.

While tracks 2 to 4 are operated by DB Netz, track 1, the associated house platform and an approximately 150-meter-long loading street are owned by the Rhein-Sieg-Eisenbahn.

There is an electronic signal box (ESTW-A) at Eggmühl train station, which is remote-controlled from the Munich operations center.

Eggmühl station is served by various regional trains. The trains on the Regional Express line stop every two hours from Munich via Landshut and Regensburg to Nuremberg .
