The Baoji – Chengdu railway line ( Chinese 宝 成 铁路 , Pinyin Bao – Cheng Tielu - "Baocheng Railway") is a 669 kilometer long electrified Chinese railway line that runs from Baoji in Shaanxi Province to Chengdu in Sichuan . It is the main connection between the north-west and south-west of the country and runs through mountainous landscapes in the south of Shaanxi and the east of Gansu .
history
Before the construction of the line began, the project failed several times. As early as 1913, the Chinese government planned to build a north – south line west of the Beijing – Hankou railway line , which would connect the upper reaches of the Yellow River with the upper reaches of the Yangtze . Several routes were investigated until plans for a Tianshui –Chengdu route began, but construction of which had not begun.
In the years 1950 to 1953, the west – east line Tianshui – Baoji and today's line Baoji – Chengdu were selected for construction. In July 1952 in Chengdu and in January 1954 in Baoji the construction of the Baocheng Railway began. The line merged in July 1956 at Huangsha River in Gansu Province.
The single-track line was opened on January 1, 1958, with the trains initially being transported by steam locomotives. In 1961, electrical operations between Baoji and Fengzhou began. It was the first electrically operated route in China. The continuous electrical operation was inaugurated in 1975. From 1993 to December 1999 the line was expanded to double tracks.
When the Sichuan earthquake in 2008 , the track was damaged.
To relieve the existing Baoji – Chengdu line and as part of the reconstruction of Sichuan after the earthquake, the Chengdu – Mianyang – Jiangyou branch of the Chengmianle PDL , which can be driven at 200 km / h , was built parallel to it . The opening took place in 2014. In future, high-speed trains from Jiangyou will use the Xicheng PDL , which will open at the end of 2017 , which will lead directly to Xi'an without a detour via Baoji . Its opening is planned for 2017. [outdated]
Route description
The main train stations on the line are Baoji , Qinling , Fengzhou , Lüeyang , Yangpingguan , Guangyuan , Jiangyou , Mianyang , Deyang and Chengdu . In the Baoji – Jiangyou section, the line is a mountain railway that crosses the Qinling mountain range and the Daba mountain range . The route then runs along the northwestern edge of the Sichuan Basin .
From Baoji, the route initially follows the Qing River in a south-westerly direction. The gradient for the first 16 km is 20 ‰. After Yangjiawan station, the artificial route extension begins with the Guanyinshan loops . Over a distance of 13 km, two double loops overcome a height difference of 380 m, with a gradient of up to 33 ‰. The route then passes under the Quinling Mountains at 1400 m above sea level with a 2364 m long apex tunnel . The route then follows the upper reaches of the Jialing until after 300 km Guangyuan is reached, whereby the railway line crosses the river 14 times. The gradient in this section is 12 ‰.
At the Guangyuan rail junction, the Chongqing – Lanzhou high-speed line crosses the Baocheng Railway and the Quanta Railway branches off to Bazhong and Dezhou . At this point is the administrative boundary between the route: the northern part is administered by Xi'an, the southern part by Chengdu, with the station itself being part of Chengdu County.
After Guangyuan, the route first crosses the Bailong River and then follows the Quingjiang River for the next 45 km. The valley of the Zitong River is reached with the more than 4 km long two-tube Xinhui Longyuan Tunnel - the longest tunnel on the Baocheng Railway . From here, the line runs roughly parallel to the edge of the Sichuan basin with the high-speed route_Xi'an – Chengdu and the G5 Beijing-Kunming motorway . After Jiangyou the route follows the Fu Jiang to Mianyang, then via Deyang to Chengdu.
