Balkhausen is a district of the city of Kerpen in the Rhein-Erft district , North Rhine-Westphalia .

location

Balkhausen is located in the Zülpicher Börde and in the Rhineland Nature Park . The state road 163, a former Roman military road , and the district road 50 run through the village.The A 61 runs to the west of the village and the A 1 to the east .

history

Together with Türnich, Balkhausen formed a subordinate rule in the Duchy of Jülich , which existed until the end of the 18th century. The basic rule had the pen food .

A memorial stone in the village commemorates the old parish church of St. Rochus, whose new building in Türnich was consecrated by Cardinal Frings on November 16, 1955 . The place belonged to the municipality of Türnich until the reorganization by the Cologne Act , which came into force on January 1, 1975 .

Starfighter crash in 1962

On June 19, 1962, about 1 km from Balkhausen, one of the worst disasters in the history of the Federal Air Force occurred . An aerobatic team launched from Nörvenich Air Base had an accident during a training flight. Three of the four starfighters bored themselves practically vertically into the ground, the fourth crashed about 300 m away. All four pilots were killed.
