Türnich is a district of the city of Kerpen in the Rhein-Erft district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

Türnich is first mentioned in a document in 1208. A "Winandus de Tornich" is handed down as a feudal man of the Countess von Molbach.

Türnich and Balkhausen formed a subordinate rule in the Duchy of Jülich , which existed until the end of the 18th century. The basic rule had the pen food .

Before his time as a district of Kerpen, Türnich was an independent municipality on the western edge of the Ville until the municipal reform in 1975 . The Cologne law of 1974 struck the municipality of today's city of Kerpen. The municipality of Türnich included the villages of Türnich, Balkhausen , Brüggen , Neu-Bottenbroich , Habbelrath and Grefrath until 1974 . Habbelrath and Grefrath have been districts of Frechen since January 1, 1975 . Up until that time, Rheinbraun AG was the municipality's largest employer.

economy

An 88.56 hectare commercial and industrial area was built by the city of Kerpen and RWE Power AG directly on Bundesstraße 264 (Düren-Cologne) . It borders directly on two existing areas with a total of 55.12 hectares.

Cultural monuments

Worth seeing is the baroque Türnich Castle , built between 1757 and 1763, with its park. Numerous stones by the artist Marko Pogačnik are placed there. In the outer bailey there is a freely accessible reference library whose holdings go back to 1590.

The historic town hall is now a residential and commercial building.
