Balthasar Wilhelm von Walther and Cronegk also Walther and Kronegk (born January 8, 1721 , † April 3, 1796 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major and knight of the order Pour le Mérite .

Life

Balthasar Wilhelm was a member of the 1670 with the imperial crest letter the Silesian Inkolat preserved noble family Walther and Cronegk. He was a son of Adolph Wilhelm von Walther and Cronegk († 1768) and Elisabeth von Schreibersdorf.

Career

Born in Silesia, he was raised by Jesuits in Breslau , although he came from Protestant parents . When the city passed to Prussia in 1741, he joined the "Truchsess" regiment of the Prussian army . As a flag junior he took part in the battles near Mollwitz and Hohenfriedeberg during the first two Silesian Wars . He then advanced to ensign and was promoted to second lieutenant on January 7, 1749 . During the Seven Years' War he was adjutant to his regiment chief . In 1763, with a patent from June 1760, he was promoted to staff captaincy . At the same time he was transferred to Berlin, where he received his own company . With his promotion to major on June 24, 1773, he was also the commander of a grenadier battalion , which was composed of the grenadier companies of the regiments "von Wylich and Lottum" and "von Koschenbahr" . On January 18, 1774, he received the order Pour le Mérite. During the War of the Bavarian Succession , he had to ask for a release due to health issues, which King Friedrich II granted him in May 1778 with an annual pension of 200 thalers . He later received a company in the Berlin Invalid Corps. He died in 1796 in the Invalidenhaus Berlin .

Walther and Cronegk got married late, not until 1788, with Beate Friederike von Prittwitz († 1809). The marriage resulted in a son who served as a flag junior in a Prussian hussar regiment .
