Ban Pong District ( Thai : อำเภอ บ้านโป่ง ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) of the province of Ratchaburi . The Ratchaburi Province is located in the central region of Thailand .

The district is located in the northeast of the province.

Neighboring counties (clockwise from north) the Amphoe Tha Muang and Tha Maka in Kanchanaburi Province , Amphoe Kamphaeng Saen and Mueang Nakhon Pathom in Nakhon Pathom Province and Amphoe Photharam in Ratchaburi Province.

In Ban Pong there is a junction of the "Southern Railway Line" of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), which runs from Bangkok via Nakhon Pathom down to Singapore . The junction is located a few kilometers north of the town of Ban Pong at Nong Pladuk Junction station, it leads to the northwest over " the bridge on the Kwai " in Kanchanaburi mostly along the Maenam Kwae Noi to Nam Tok. Another junction goes north and connects Suphanburi with Bangkok with one train per day .

During the construction of the so-called Death Railway in World War II by the Japanese , there was a POW camp in Ban Pong .

West of the city of Ban Pong is Wat Muang , a Buddhist temple ( Wat ) , which is the center of the local Mon group . In the temple is the "Mon Folk Museum", which was opened in 1992 to preserve the Mon way of life. Also on the temple grounds is the Mon Study Center, which deals with the history, language and script of the Mon ethnic group ( see : web links).

The writer Nai Mi, a contemporary of Sunthorn Phu from the early 19th century, mentions the small village of Ban Pong in a nirat about his trip to the famous temple Wat Phra Thaen Dong Rang .

There are two municipalities with "city" status ( Thesaban Mueang ) in the district:

• Ban Pong (Thai: เทศบาล เมือง บ้านโป่ง ) consisting of the complete Tambon Ban Pong.
• Tha Pha (Thai: เทศบาล เมืองท่า ผา ) consisting of the complete Tambon Tha Pha and parts of the Tambon Pak Raet.

There are four municipalities with "small town" status ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the district:

• Krachap (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล กระจับ ) consisting of the parts of the Tambon Nong O, Don Krabueang.
• Huai Krabok (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ห้วย กระบอก ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Krap Yai.
• Krap Yai (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ก รับ ใหญ่ ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Krap Yai.
• Boek Phrai (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เบิกไพร ) consisting of the complete tambon Boek Phrai.

In addition, there are eleven " tambon administration organizations " ( องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - Tambon Administrative Organizations, TAO)

• Pak Raet (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ปาก แร ต ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Pak Raet.
• Nong Kop (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล หนอง กบ ) consisting of the complete Tambon Nong Kop.
• Nong O (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล หนอง อ้อ ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Nong O.
• Don Krabueang (Thai: องค์การ บริหารส่วน ตำบล ดอน กระเบื้อง ) consisting of parts of the tambon Don Krabueang.
• Suan Kluai (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล สวน กล้วย ) consisting of the complete tambon Suan Kluai.
• Nakhon Chum (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล นคร ชุม น์ ) consisting of the complete tambon Nakhon Chum.
• Ban Muang (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล บ้านม่วง ) consisting of the complete tambon Ban Muang.
• Khung Phayom (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล คุ้ง พ ยอม ) consisting of the complete tambon Khung Phayom.
• Nong Pla Mo (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล หนอง ปลา หมอ ) consisting of the complete tambon Nong Pla Mo.
• Khao Khlung (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล เขา ขลุง ) consisting of the complete Tambon Khao Khlung.
