Barry Potomski (born November 24, 1972 in Windsor , Ontario , † May 24, 2011 ibid) was a Canadian ice hockey player . During his career he played between 1989 and 2001 for the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks in the National Hockey League .
Career
Potomski first played three years from 1989 to 1992 with the London Knights in the Ontario Hockey League , where no NHL team secured the rights to him (so-called " drafting "). Therefore, he moved to the 1992/93 season in the East Coast Hockey League , where he had a brief stint with the Erie Panthers before he was transferred to the Toledo Storm during the season . With the Storm he won the Riley Cup , the championship of the ECHL, in the 1992/93 season . This was followed by a brief interlude with the Anaheim Bullfrogs in the summer of 1993 in the professional inline hockey league Roller Hockey International , for which the left-handed shooter completed 13 games, scored 19 points and spent 56 minutes in the penalty box. He then returned in the 1993/94 game year back to the Toledo Storm before the Adirondack Red Wings took him under contract from the American Hockey League during the season, with which he also ended the season.
On July 7, 1994, he signed a contract as a free agent with the Los Angeles Kings from the NHL, who first used the right winger with the Phoenix Roadrunners in the International Hockey League . After he had played the entire 1994/95 season and parts of the 1995/96 season , the Kings brought him for the first time in the NHL roster and used him in 33 games. The same picture emerged during the 1996/97 season , which he also spent between the IHL and NHL. After three years in the Los Angeles Kings franchise , he signed on August 15, 1997 as a free agent with the San Jose Sharks , where he came in the 1997/98 season to another eight missions in the NHL. However, he left the Sharks after a year and moved back in August 1998 as a free agent to the organization of the Detroit Red Wings , for whose farm team , the Adirondack Red Wings, he had already played in the 1993/94 season. The Red Wings only use the Canadian in the farm team. After the 1998/99 season Potomski signed again with another club. This time the San Diego Gulls from the West Coast Hockey League were his target, which he left again after the 1999/00 season and spent his last professional season at the league rivals Idaho Steelheads .
On May 24, 2011, Potomski collapsed in a gym in his hometown of Windsor and passed away shortly after.
