Bartec (own spelling BARTEC) is a German company in the field of security technology based in Bad Mergentheim in the Main-Tauber district in Baden-Württemberg . It manufactures components and systems for working in the vicinity of flammable substances (liquids, gases and dusts). Customers are the chemical industry , the oil and gas sector, petrochemicals and mining . The company has around 1,600 employees (2013) and produces at locations in Germany, Switzerland , Slovenia , Great Britain, Norway and China .

Products and services

The company deals with process technology and the handling of fossil fuels such as coal , crude oil , natural gas and flammable substances. One focus is automation technology , for which explosion-proof components and systems are developed and produced that are used for identification, visualization, control and regulation in industrial plants. Sensors, measuring and analysis systems for the chemical, petrochemical , natural gas, pharmaceutical, environment and energy sectors are manufactured, as well as components for use in mining .

In the field of heating technology , Bartec develops and produces electrical trace heating systems for frost protection, temperature maintenance and heating. These systems are used in the aerospace , chemical and petrochemical industries to keep liquid and gaseous media at a desired temperature.

Measurement and data acquisition systems form another product area. Bartec develops and produces systems for the transport, storage and distribution of flammable liquids; The focus is on mineral oil products. In the area of control and connection technology, Bartec offers the development, production and delivery of components and systems that increase the safety standard of devices, apparatus and machines. Another focus is on communication solutions for the oil and gas, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Under the name BARTEC Safe.t Academy , specialist seminars are offered on various topics in the field of safety technology and the basics of explosion protection.

history

The company was founded in 1975 by Reinhold A. Barlian as a one-man operation. He initially dealt with the development and manufacture of a safety switch that prevents explosions at fuel pumps .

In 1979 branches were set up in the Netherlands and France under the idea of ​​"Europe is inland". In 1987 the first branch in the Far East was established in Tokyo. After German reunification , branches were set up in Gera , Glesien (northern Saxony) and Leipzig . Another subsidiary was founded in the USA in 1994. In Germany, locations in Menden (Sauerland) and Gotteszell were added in 1996 . In the same year, Bartec was able to secure the largest order in the company's history with a volume of more than € 10 million: the Leuna refinery project , for which Bartec supplied the heating technology. Another production plant was opened in Slovenia in 1997. Two years later, the diverse product area of ​​Siemens Mining, Menden (Sauerland), was integrated into the Bartec Group.

In order to continue financing the investments and growth, Allianz Capital Partners - the private equity company of the Allianz Group - became the new majority shareholder in 2002 . In 2003, Bartec took over Benke Instrument & Elektro GmbH in Reinbek / Hamburg and founded a new division for analysis technology, engineering and services, BARTEC BENKE GmbH. The Bartec Group has thus developed into a leading provider of complete solutions in industrial security technology and is among the top three companies in this market segment worldwide. Bartec entered into a joint venture in China in 2004 . The aim here is to develop new products that are intended to further increase safety in Chinese mining, and to produce them on site. In the same year, the BARTEC Safe.t Academy was founded as a place for customers, partners and employees to exchange knowledge and experience.

In 2005 the management of the company changed from the founder Reinhold A. Barlian to Ralf Köster. In addition, the first Bartec specialist congress for innovation and security technology was held, and the joint venture plants in Changzhi (China) and Russia were founded.

In 2008 the Swiss holding company Capvis took over the majority of Bartec's shares. Another sales company was founded in India. In 2009 the company received an award as one of the 100 most innovative medium-sized companies in Germany. A new production facility in Shanghai (China) was added. The Bartec Group took over the communications and security system provider Vodec Ltd. and founded the new BARTEC VODEC division.

In 2010, the Norwegian market leader for explosion- protected devices and systems, Technor Safe Ex AS , was taken over. In 2011, Bartec Benke became the most important provider of process analysis technology through two major orders. The product range of POLARIS Touch Panel PCs has been expanded to include widescreen LED displays. Since then, Bartec has been listed in the lexicon of the world market leader in the Heilbronn - Franconia region .

In 2012 Bartec founded a joint venture in Saudi Arabia. For the second time, the company was one of the top 100 awards. The private equity company Charterhouse became the new owner of Bartec this year.

In 2013, Bartec took over the provider of mobile communication devices and wireless infrastructure for hazardous areas, Pixavi. In 2014, ORB, a manufacturer of process analysis technology based in Chicago / USA, was taken over. The largest acquisition in the company's history was the takeover of the Italian TOP Group.

Corporate structure

The company's international network is divided into ten production sites in Germany, Switzerland , Slovenia , Great Britain, Norway and China as well as more than 30 own sales companies and around 50 international sales partners worldwide. The company headquarters in Bad Mergentheim manufactures products in the fields of automation technology, control and connection technology and heating technology. The Safe.t Academy is also located there. Automation technology and control and connection technology is also produced at the production site in Shanghai / China. The Gotteszell site specializes in the areas of humidity and temperature measurement technology as well as measurement and data acquisition systems for hazardous liquids and milk. In Menden (Sauerland) and Changhzi / China there are production facilities for electrical engineering for mining. Analysis devices and systems are produced at the fourth location in Germany, Reinbek. The production site in Nottingham / Great Britain manufactures communication systems. Stainless steel solutions for the oil and gas industry are produced in Saudasjøen / Norway. Sainte-Croix in Switzerland manufactures heating cables, sensor cables and vibration measurement technology. Motors and electrical materials products are manufactured in Zagorje / Slovenia.
