Bastian Hellberg (born October 27, 1962 in Hanover ) is a former German soccer player . From 1983 to 1990 he played a total of 78 Bundesliga games (4 goals) and 93 games (10 goals) in the 2nd division for Hannover 96 .

career

The 1.87 m tall Hellberg had come to the "Reds" for the 1983/84 season via the stations SV Aligse and SV Arminia Hannover . He had gained playing experience with the “Blauen” in the Oberliga Nord and also played in the DFB-Pokal . He played mainly in defense but was also used in midfield. His debut in the 2nd Bundesliga was clearly lost on August 6, 1983 with 1: 5 against Karlsruher SC. Already in his first season with the ninety-six, he experienced a change of coach in October 1983: Gerhard Bohnsack was replaced by Werner Biskup and at the end of the round the disappointing 14th place was taken. Hellberg had played 16 second division games alongside other players such as Jürgen Rynio , Karsten Surmann , Werner Lorant , Martin Giesel , Bernd Gorski , Frank Hartmann and Bernd Thiele . In his second round with Hannover 96 he experienced promotion to the Bundesliga in 1984/85 with the runner- up. With 35 league appearances and four goals, he played his part. Thanks to his good game overview and pronounced understanding of the game, his strengths were more on the offensive; He was able to clearly prove this in the 2nd Bundesliga. On the first day of the round, the Libero and his teammates won 2-1 at VfR Bürstadt on August 14, 1984 and achieved the 2-0 lead in the 34th minute. Hellberg made his Bundesliga debut with Hanover on August 10, 1985 with a 1-1 away draw at Bayer Leverkusen. In the course of the round, however, the performance of the 96s got more and more difficult and culminated in the work of four coaches: Promotion coach Werner Biskup was replaced by goalkeeper Jürgen Rynio on November 22nd, who in turn was replaced by Jörg Berger on January 13th, 1986 and the round ended on March 18, Helmut Kalthoff . Hellberg played 29 league games (2 goals) and Hannover conceded 92 goals and was relegated from bottom of the table in the second division.

He immediately returned to the Bundesliga in 1986/87 by winning the championship . Hellberg had played 32 league games and scored five goals under the new coach Jürgen Wähling . The Bundesliga climber finished 10th in 1987/88 and Hellberg carried 28 league appearances (1 goal) alongside teammates such as Karl-Heinz Geils , Peter Hobday , Matthias Kuhlmey , Bernd Dierßen , Karsten Surmann, Andreas Müller , Siegfried Reich and Gregor Grillemeier contributes significantly to this. In the second year, 1988/89, Hellberg was again last with Hanover and again relegated to the 2nd division. The change of coach from Wähling to Hans Siemensmeyer (September 19 to March 21, 1989) and on March 22 to Reinhard Saftig did not change that either . In his last round of the Bundesliga, Hellberg played again in 21 league games (1 goal). With his use on May 17, 1990 in a 3: 4 away defeat in the 2nd Bundesliga against Rot-Weiss Essen, he ended his playing career as a licensed player.

He played at Hannover 96 from 1983 to 1990 and played 78 league games in the Bundesliga and 93 league games in the 2nd division. He was ascended and relegated twice. He then moved to TuS Celle for four years and ended his playing career at VfL Osnabrück in 1994 .

Bastian Hellberg has been the administrative director of the Lower Saxony Football Association since 2005 and has held this position for 14 years. From October 24, 2019, he will sit on the sports committee of the supervisory board of the professional company von Hannover 96 GmbH & Co KGaA.
