Bates Motel is an American television film directed by Richard Rothstein from 1987. It is a production by Universal TV distributed by the National Broadcasting Company ( NBC ) and had its television premiere in the USA on July 5, 1987. In Germany , the Film released on VHS by CIC Video in November 1987 . It only had its television premiere in Germany on October 29, 2005.

Norman Bates meets the younger Alex West at the mental institution and bequeaths his motel to him. Alex invests a lot of time and effort to restore the now very dilapidated motel. He gets help from the young and attractive Willie. During construction, Mrs. Bates' body is found and buried. Alex is now plagued by nightmares in which he sees corpses that do not exist. Mrs. Bates' rocking chair also begins to move as if by magic. Ultimately, it turns out that Alex is to be evicted from the Bates estate, but this fails thanks to the support of Willie and Henry Watson.

Action info

  • The film makes reference to Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho . Here is Bates Motel not affiliated with the psychological sequels II , III and IV , but builds on Hitchcock's original from 1960 on. The film also falls outside the scope of psychological films because of its happy ending.
  • Also unlike in the psychological films, Bates Motel is limited to horror and shock scenes and contains neither the density of the originals nor their psychological framework.
