Bechara Giuda

Bechara Giuda Matarana OFM (born August 28, 1971 in Al-Nagila ) is an Egyptian religious and Coptic Catholic Bishop of Abu Qurqas .

Life

Bechara Giuda occurred in 1983 in the Seraphic seminar of the Congregation of the Franciscan in Asyut one, entered the order, and put on 1 September 1996, the first profession from. He studied philosophy at the Franciscan Seminary in Giza and then did his military service. He completed his theological studies at the Patriarchal Seminary in Maadi and at the St. Paul Institute for Theology and Philosophy in Harissa , Lebanon . He made his perpetual profession on March 23, 2001 and received the sacrament of priestly ordination on June 8 of the same year through the Bishop of Sohag , Morkos Hakim .

After his ordination he was active in the pastoral care and as a provincial councilor of his religious province and as headmaster in Kom Ombo . Since 2010 he has been pastor at the Shrine of the Stigmata of St. Francis of Assisi in Asyut.

On January 7, 2020, Pope Francis approved the election of Giudas as the first bishop of the Abu Qurqas eparchy, which was established on the same date, by the Synod of the Coptic Catholic Church. The Coptic Catholic Patriarch Ibrahim Isaac Sidrak ordained him episcopal on February 27 of the same year in the Cathedral of Abu Qurqas . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Assiut , Kyrillos Kamal William Samaan , the Bishop of Sohag, Basilios Fawzy Al-Dabe , and his predecessor Youssef Aboul-Kheir , the Bishop of Ismayliah , Daniel Lotfy Khella and his predecessor Makarios Tewfik , the Bishop of Minya , Kamal Fahim Awad Boutros Hanna , the Bishop of Luxor , Emmanuel Bishay , the Bishop of Giza , Toma Adly Zaki , and Hani Bakhoum Kiroulos , Curia Bishop in the Coptic Catholic Patriarchate.
