Rebecca Ladia Edwards (born May 22, 1988 in Downingtown , Pennsylvania ) is an American football player .

Career

Edwards was signed in twelfth place by FC Gold Pride at the WPS Entry Draft for the 2010 season and was able to celebrate the championship there at the end of the season. Her next season, this time with Western New York Flash , also ended with the WPS title. Edwards then played from 2011 to 2012 first at Hammarby IF , and after their relegation at Kristianstads DFF in the Swedish Damallsvenskan .

In early 2013 she was hired as a so-called free agent for the newly founded NWSL of Portland. Edwards made her league debut on April 13, 2013 against FC Kansas City . On June 13, 2013, she tore a cruciate ligament during training , which caused her to be out for the rest of the season. Previously, Edwards had been in all ten Thorns games over the full season. For the 2014 season she switched to the newly founded league competitor Houston Dash as part of the 2014 Expansion Draft . After another brief loan to Kristianstads DFF in autumn 2014, she returned to the USA for the 2015 season and joined the NWSL franchise of Western New York Flash together with her teammate Whitney Engen . Once again after just one season Edwards moved on to newcomer Orlando Pride and initially ended her career after missing the playoffs at the end of the 2016 season.

In February 2017 she moved to Kristianstads DFF for the third time.

National team

Edwards has played for the United States U-17, U-20 and U-23 national teams since 2005 . With the U-20 she won the 2008 World Cup , with the U-23 the four-nation tournament in 2011 . In addition, from 2011 she was invited to training camps for the US national team.
